Oops! Sorry.
September 23, 2009 2:33 pm at 2:33 pm #671041squeakParticipantThanks areivim. What you posted proves what I’ve been saying for years can be taken literally – chulente es caliente 🙂
If I had my way
I’d ship it all away
and drop it on the Arabs
they’d be gone in a day
(put that in mistaken lyrics thread!)

September 23, 2009 7:33 pm at 7:33 pm #671055squeakParticipantGood thing areivim doesn’t get here until 3/4 of the day is gone. No one to dispute the spelling all day, so by unanimous decision…..
September 23, 2009 9:23 pm at 9:23 pm #671056mepalMember…the name remains sholent.
September 24, 2009 12:12 am at 12:12 am #671057pookieMemberthe shiksa/cleaning lady in my shul makes the best cholent in the ganse velt!!
September 24, 2009 12:19 am at 12:19 am #671058mybatMemberSHOLENT!
September 24, 2009 3:10 am at 3:10 am #671059bein_hasdorimParticipantareivim: Although Editor deserves an O, I totally agree with you that Chulent
is spelled like it tastes, “C-H-U-L-E-N-T!”
Whoever pronounces it otherwise, their Chulent might be lacking in its tastes,
what in lacks in its name. “Abisil Shmaltz!”
Lets face it, a litvishe cholent…. “Es Failt Taam!
September 24, 2009 6:01 am at 6:01 am #671060postsemgirlMemberBein hasdorim- gotta agree with you!
Jax- Thursday night chulent tomorrow night at your place?
September 24, 2009 1:17 pm at 1:17 pm #671061areivimzehlazehParticipantb_h: well said!
Now this is serious stuff- we’ve got areivim, bein_hasdorim and areivim for chULENT. Anyone else?
Jax- aren’t you a U guy too?
September 24, 2009 3:23 pm at 3:23 pm #671062mepalMemberI think there is another factor here as well.
It also depends on how you pronounce the word.
If you say chulent like chew-lint, you are completely off. Go back to Willy town.
If you pronounce it chuh-lint, you’re good. It really doesn’t matter then how you spell it, although, chOlent might just be the grammatically correct way to.
If you spell it chOlent and say it like chow-lint, you belong in the KAJ, not here ;). YOU are talking about something totally different. Maybe its gruenkerren zup you mean.
September 24, 2009 3:31 pm at 3:31 pm #671063postsemgirlMemberareivim- I say chulent too!
September 24, 2009 3:35 pm at 3:35 pm #671064Poshite Yid 613MemberI say chuh-lint too
September 24, 2009 3:38 pm at 3:38 pm #671065mepalMemberThats 2. Anyone else?
September 24, 2009 6:58 pm at 6:58 pm #671067areivimzehlazehParticipantpostsem, I meant to list you, sorry… And Poshite- I was able to tell just from your humor that you spell it and say it chUlent!
That makes 4 mepal- know how to count?
I can tell you now that Joseph is not a U guy- just check out his nursery rhymes (dentist bills!!)
September 24, 2009 7:02 pm at 7:02 pm #671068mepalMemberareivim, I’m counting the amount of people that PRONOUNCE it chuh-lint.
September 24, 2009 7:05 pm at 7:05 pm #671069squeakParticipantmepal, make sure you count areivim at least twice. Three times would be better, for good measure. Otherwise there might not be enough people on areivim’s side. Tsk tsk, in the asaires yemai t’shiva too.
September 24, 2009 7:06 pm at 7:06 pm #671070squeakParticipantBTW, I would never go near a food that’s called Chow Lint. Perhaps that’s why you guys don’t make it?
September 24, 2009 7:15 pm at 7:15 pm #671071mepalMembersqueak, does Chau-Lint sound more appetizing?
September 24, 2009 7:22 pm at 7:22 pm #671072haifagirlParticipantI spell it cholent but pronounce it chuh-lint. Go figure.
September 24, 2009 7:25 pm at 7:25 pm #671073areivimzehlazehParticipantif you listen real close, squeak is trying to say something very meaningful to this thread and it’s current debate: “…. in the asaires yemai t’shiva too”
THAT’S FIVE- hmph
September 24, 2009 7:40 pm at 7:40 pm #671074mepalMemberMister areivim:
Question: Do you pronounce it Chuh-lint or Chew-lint. (this is VERY important)
September 24, 2009 7:45 pm at 7:45 pm #671075areivimzehlazehParticipantIt is against CR rules to divulge personal info.
haifagirl makes us SIX- to the U board 🙂
September 24, 2009 7:47 pm at 7:47 pm #671076mepalMemberCome on, areivim. Dont be a chicken. I still wont discover who you are if you divulge this HUGE secret.
September 24, 2009 7:52 pm at 7:52 pm #671077kapustaParticipantmepal, with all due respect, that chew-lint sounds terrible! Can we switch that to choo-lent?
I think the real spelling should be chulent but I hate the way it looks spelled like that, so I spell it cholent. I pronounce chuh-lent. What category does that put me in?
September 24, 2009 8:01 pm at 8:01 pm #671078mepalMemberMine! Welcome, kapusta.
September 24, 2009 8:12 pm at 8:12 pm #671079kapustaParticipant<bow> thank you, mepal. I hope I will prove to be a worthy asset to your group. Thank you for giving me this honor.

September 25, 2009 12:20 am at 12:20 am #671085plonisalmonisMemberI think the best spelling ever is with a komatz!!!!!! Ch with a komatz underneath!!
(But if you pronounce the ch like it should have a kubutz or a shuruk underneath, then you are pronouncing it wrong!!! GO CHLENT (oops that was supposed to have a komatz!)
September 25, 2009 7:00 am at 7:00 am #671086JaxMemberi’m on the chulent side!
postsemgirl: my supper tonight was chulent & potato Keeegil!
now the debate should shift to is it potato keeeeegil or poato kugel?!
September 25, 2009 12:56 pm at 12:56 pm #671087mepalMemberWelcome to this side, plonis!
