September 23, 2009 8:19 pm at 8:19 pm #662246YW Moderator-80MemberI don’t live in the NY area, but any Sukkah+Ahavas Hashem combination should do the trick just fine

September 23, 2009 10:16 pm at 10:16 pm #662255areivimzehlazehParticipantThere’s plenty to do- what’s wrong with some quality family time?
Play sports in a park, weather permitting
Go to Bear Mountain
Mohawk Mountain
Play Taboo with your fam!
Open any AAA book…
Science & History Museums
Mansions, gardents etc… (yik)

September 24, 2009 2:37 am at 2:37 am #662260mybatMemberJust curious. I imagine many people work right? How do people do it on chol hamoed with their jobs or businesses? I’m just wondering because for my husband its hard for him to get away from his office for so many days especially with all the yom Tovs.
September 24, 2009 2:57 am at 2:57 am #662261FunnyBunnyMemberDepending on when Chol HaMoed falls out (over a weekend or, like Sukkos, over the whole week) determines whether or not my father has enough vacation days to take off. This Sukkos, he is planning to go in for 2 days because he otherwise does not have enough.
September 24, 2009 3:09 am at 3:09 am #662262mybatMemberAnd the good thing is that yom tov falls on weekends!

October 6, 2009 3:28 am at 3:28 am #662275NY MomMemberThe Trenk’s sukkah is the most fantastic private sukkah you have ever seen! You can go any time to look around and be amazed! They have literally hundreds of gedolim pictures of rabbonim from all branches of Torah Judaism, detailed dioramas, and a huge fish tank. And they add something new every year. Can’t describe it adequately – it’s a must see!

October 6, 2009 3:31 pm at 3:31 pm #662282mepalMemberWhy not? NY? Its the greatest place on planet earth!
October 6, 2009 3:47 pm at 3:47 pm #662283mybatMemberThe hotels are expensive, there’s no parking, people are ahem…. Rude, don’t get me wrong I do like NY but if I have to buy an airplane ticket, rent a car, pay for hotel, etc I can really go anywhere. LA, Miami, etc.
October 6, 2009 3:49 pm at 3:49 pm #662284mepalMemberYou can always stay by us 😉

October 6, 2009 4:43 pm at 4:43 pm #662286telegrokMemberBest Chol HaMoed Trips: (1) local hospital, with your age-appropriate children, a lulav/esrog, and a plate of cake. (2) local nursing home, with your age-appropriate children, and a plate of cake. (Check patients’ dietary restrictions before offering food). Maybe an hour during an afternoon of a couple of days of chol ha’moed.
Nothing makes a bigger or better impact on children than teaching by example that while we have time off from work and school we SHARE that time with others who not be able to go on trips or be with family. The opportunity to teach selflessness should be embraced.
October 7, 2009 12:06 am at 12:06 am #662287mepalMemberPlease do, mybat 😉
October 7, 2009 1:20 am at 1:20 am #662288mybatMemberWhenever you want you can come to Mexico and ask around for mybat. Come to think of it it’ll probably be easier for you to find me! (less people than in NY!!)
