Hi,
This past Succos looking for something a little easier on the pocket book I took the family to the Staten Island Ferry. Although it was free I ended up paying close to $30 for parking as I didn’t realize how much it was in that area of Manhattan. Does anyone have any work around for the parking? Parking further away on the street and taking the subway isn’t an option since with a family of eight I won’t gain anything.
Thanks,
Heshy

If you drive through Jersey, there is a way to pay $2 on the bridges (Because of High Occupancy Vehicle rates). and coming back from Staten Island to Brooklyn is free

The trick is to go via Manhattan and Jersey (Bayonne Bridge is not that far from Ferry Terminal)

“If you drive through Jersey, there is a way to pay $2 on the bridges (Because of High Occupancy Vehicle rates).”
Does anyone know “the way”?
February 21, 2011 6:42 pm at 6:42 pm #742871phillybubbyParticipantThe Verrazano Bridge toll is $13. I think Zahavasdad is talking about using the Holland (?) Tunnel to get to NJ and then the NJ Turnpike to the Goethals Bridge where you get a carpool rate into Staten Island. Then on the way back to Brooklyn from Staten Island, the Verrazano is free.
February 21, 2011 6:46 pm at 6:46 pm #742872zahavasdadParticipantHere is how to get the $2 car pool rate on any Port Authority Bridge or Tunnel (Kids and Babies DO Count as people)
Carpooling is both eco-conscious and the most economical way to travel.
The Port Authority Carpool Plan provides the largest toll discount at the Port Authority bridges and tunnels. By carpooling, you save the most money and reduce the number of vehicles on the road.
* The toll for Port Authority Carpool customers is $2 per vehicle at all hours.
* You must have an E-ZPass account and you must register for the Port Authority Carpool Discount Plan.
* To register for the Carpool Plan, call 800-333-8655 (New York Service Center) or 888-288-6865 (New Jersey Service Center). Be sure to have your account number or tag number and PIN for account access.
* Three or more people must be in a vehicle to be eligible for the discount (no commercial vehicles qualify).
* Customers must use a staffed “Cash-E-ZPass” toll lane and come to a complete stop so the toll collector can verify the number of occupants in the vehicle.

but here is the basic gist
Take the Holland tunnel Across to Jersey . You then take NJ Turnpike to Bayonne (Cost 50 Cents) or there is a way via roads to get to Bayonne.
Go to Bayonne Bridge back to Staten Island and take Staten Island Expressway to get to Ferry.

February 21, 2011 7:23 pm at 7:23 pm #742875zahavasdadParticipantIf you go from Brooklyn to Staten Island the toll is $13 , If you go to Manhattan, New Jersey and then Staten Island the toll is as low as $2.
OP wanted a way to save alot of money
