August 9, 2011 8:46 pm at 8:46 pm #796304GetzelParticipantwe screened them so we have the dvds at home
August 9, 2011 11:58 pm at 11:58 pm #796305YW Moderator-42ModeratorIt seems that they are not available to watch online. But are these available for purchase online?
I was thinking of the pros and cons of having them online. On the one hand many more people would be able to watch. But on the other hand there is something to the experience of watching it together with many others in a shul and if it was available online many people wouldn’t go.
August 9, 2011 11:59 pm at 11:59 pm #796306sheinMemberSo they should put it online tomorrow for the people who missed it.
August 10, 2011 12:06 am at 12:06 am #796307☕️coffee addictParticipantAnd what about the people that couldn’t go (like me)

August 10, 2011 1:35 am at 1:35 am #796310sheinMemberam yisrael chai: The CCHF has it available for sale on DVD?
August 10, 2011 2:26 am at 2:26 am #796311am yisrael chaiParticipant“The CCHF has it available for sale on DVD?”
They were selling only CDs at the event. However, I just put in a call to someone affiliated with the CCHF & said they would let me know tomorrow be”H if they will sell the DVD now that the event is over.
August 10, 2011 2:43 am at 2:43 am #796312sheinMemberWhat’s the difference if it’s on CD or DVD?
August 10, 2011 2:46 am at 2:46 am #796313☕️coffee addictParticipantcd you can’t view the speakers just listen to them
August 10, 2011 2:53 am at 2:53 am #796314sheinMemberOh, so they sold the full audio on CD at today’s presentation? How much did it cost? And how much did the presentation cost to attend in person?
And what was shown at the presentation? Any historical video footage? Who spoke? And what were the subjects being discussed?

August 10, 2011 4:26 am at 4:26 am #796316GetzelParticipantif they were to sell the DVDs they would stand to lose tons of $$$ from ppl coming to watch it.
one thing i don’t understand is the singing, who needs music on Tisha b’av the rabbonim prohibit acapella so why do they put it on the dvd?
August 10, 2011 4:33 am at 4:33 am #796317sheinMemberThey wouldn’t lose any money if they now sell the DVD, since Tisha B’Av is over and no one else will be paying to watch it in person.
BTW, how much did the audio-only CD cost today? And how much did the presentation cost to attend in person?
Which DVD has acapella music?
August 10, 2011 8:02 am at 8:02 am #796318kapustaParticipantone thing i don’t understand is the singing, who needs music on Tisha b’av the rabbonim prohibit acapella so why do they put it on the dvd?
I didn’t see it but I guess it was just voices…? They probably asked a shaila (in previous years), but to answer your question, music (or singing) has a certain power and can touch a person in a different way than just talking would.
August 10, 2011 9:19 am at 9:19 am #796319YW Moderator-42ModeratorI didn’t see it this year but I remember the music from previous years being very moving. Gets you into the spirit of the day. Music in the 3 weeks is only assur if it live or gets you to dance, although many of us are machmir and won’t listen to any music during the 3 weeks there are poskim who even mattir any acapela or recorded music so certainly moving acapela should be fine in this situation. Like kapusta said, I assume they asked a shaila.
August 10, 2011 1:02 pm at 1:02 pm #796320inspiredteenMemberFrom what I understood about accapella during the 3 weeks is that there is a problem with the ones that don’t sound like accapella – anyone who has heard it know what I am talking about.
The acappella the the CCHF uses is what is considered ok. It is clearly just voices and they aren’t heavily computerized.
And like kapusta and Mod-42 said – I am sure that they asked a shaila.
August 10, 2011 1:11 pm at 1:11 pm #796321Another nameParticipantThe music they was very powerful and moving. Many were brought to tears by my shul. In this case, the music helped accomplish the purpose of the video, if it drew people to be inspired.

I believe that w/o asking a shaila the above reasoning is not enough, we can not decide what we may and what we may not. i hope they did ask a shaila
August 10, 2011 7:44 pm at 7:44 pm #796323sheinMemberam yisrael chai: Did your contact at the CCHF advise you yet if the DVD will be made available?
August 10, 2011 8:03 pm at 8:03 pm #796324cherrybimParticipantam yisrael chai: Correction. R Yitzchok Berkowitz and R Eli Mansour are Harav Yitzchok Berkowitz and Harav Eli Mansour.
