Chiropractor told 16 year old boy he could re-align his neck and back with treatments twice a week for 4 months and $2800!!
March 1, 2012 2:56 am at 2:56 am #973126bekitzurParticipantIf you’re being sarcastic, consider this: I had a 90 degree tilt in my back (kyphosis), which is MAJOR grounds for surgery. I’ve been going to a chiropractor for around three months while all the surgeons laughed.
I went for x-rays around a week and a half ago.
The tilt is down to around 70 degrees.
March 1, 2012 4:54 am at 4:54 am #9731271st timerParticipantI’m not being sarcastic at all. I’m looking for serious answers, please.
March 1, 2012 6:27 am at 6:27 am #973128HaLeiViParticipantSo that’s $87.50 per visit. No big deal. How long is each visit?
March 1, 2012 2:44 pm at 2:44 pm #973129yungerman1Participantbekitzur- If the chiropractor gets the tilt down to normal and you dont need surgery let us know. Otherwise…
March 1, 2012 2:52 pm at 2:52 pm #973130No One Mourns The WickedMemberI had a slipped disc and sciatica. I was extremely skeptical of Chiropractors so I tried every method in the book (PT, Acupuncture, Muscle Relaxers..) before dragging myself into the office…believe it or not…I’m back and better then ever 🙂
Cost about $80/session
(well that and Vicadin lol)
March 1, 2012 3:57 pm at 3:57 pm #9731311st timerParticipantJust took a look, with my glasses on, at the contract and it’s $2900! Anyone with good or bad experiences at the chiropractor, please speak up now.
March 1, 2012 4:02 pm at 4:02 pm #973132Think firstMemberMy chiropractor charges $45 dollars a visit. Unless this chiropractor is a specialist and the issue is a serious one he could get that care for less money.
March 1, 2012 5:21 pm at 5:21 pm #973133BTGuyParticipantChiropractors can do great things.
I guess the approximate 87 dollar, or so, charge is not a copay, but a payment for those who are not using insurance?
March 1, 2012 7:37 pm at 7:37 pm #9731341st timerParticipantmost chiropractors are not covered by insurance.
March 1, 2012 8:25 pm at 8:25 pm #973135oomisParticipantChiropractic can be a MOST effective process for pain management and even elimination of it. The charge is fair, and people with insurance will pay only a co-pay. Not all insurance covers chiro care, and more is the pity, because it is far less costly in the long run than continuous orthopedic visits and buying pain meds, both of which may not address the real problem.
As with ANY medical circumstance, make sure your doctor is GOOD. There are ineffective medical docs, and there are chirpractors who are better and those who are worse, also – good and bad in all professions. You cannot ask us and expect and informed answer, about that boy’s situation, as none of us knows what his neck and back problems are. Chiropractic DOES re-align bones that are out of alignment, when it is possible to do so. The pain relief is often IMMEDIATE. But if someone for example, has a situation that requires surgical intervention, it still will require surgical intervention, chiro care notwithstanding. Chiropractic can help many situations, but just as an MD cannot cure everything, neither can any practicioner in alternative fields.
March 1, 2012 8:25 pm at 8:25 pm #973136nitpickerParticipantit is all very interesting discussing back problems and chiropractors. I don’t know if some of them can help with backs by manipulating them. it is a reasonable idea that it might be possible.
but the idea (the nonesensical idea) of chiropractic is that the body will heal itself of many if not most diseases and conditions, if only they re-align the spine and remove subluxations.
rediculous on its face and rediculous when studied.
end of my comments on this thread.
March 2, 2012 3:17 am at 3:17 am #973137yankdownunderMember1st timer I would also consider seeing an Osteopath. An Osteopath is an Alternative Holistic Doctor to a Chiropractor who works with the entire Physiology using manipulative techniques as part of the healing. I would contact the Osteopathic Society where ever the boys family lives for more information about Osteopathy also to inquire about a recommendation, referral/names of people that were treated by a particular Osteopath, how much it would cost for a treatment and other pertinent questions. In other words the family of the boy need to do their homework to find the right Osteopath for treatment if and only if Osteopathy would be a more helpful route to pursue. I hope the boy gets relief from his pain and suffering, and his family makes the most informed choice for his treatment.
March 2, 2012 5:33 pm at 5:33 pm #973138bekitzurParticipantMy chiropractor charges 90/visit. But he has an office in a different area where it’s (I think) 50/visit.
March 4, 2012 2:32 am at 2:32 am #973139oomisParticipantNitpicker, the idea behind the ability of the body to ehal itself when aligned properly is not unique to chiropractic. Asian medicine believes this as well, as do many other alternative medical ideologies. It is not farfetched that if for example, you have a nerve pressing on something causing numbness and pain, that manipulating the spine in such a way as to cause the nerve to stop pressing in that manner, will resolve the problem. it’s that same idea. Not everything can be healed in this manner, but certain types of chronic pain can be alleviated and/or eliminated through chiropractic care.
May 30, 2013 2:23 am at 2:23 am #973140bekitzurParticipantJust though to re-post here. My curve was reduced to around 50 degrees, so B”H I wear a back brace now.
May 30, 2013 6:17 am at 6:17 am #973141haifagirlParticipantAlso, there are different chiropractic techniques. Some are better than others. I would never use a chiropractor who does “popping” or “cracking.”
May 30, 2013 11:45 am at 11:45 am #973142twistedParticipantIn my days of slipping on ice and working with and moving fantastically heavy objects, chiropractic was part of my overhead. I found some of them rough, until I crossed paths with an osteopath, who literally tore me limb from limb. After him, I settled on a cautious female chiropracter who was slightly more gentle. I have since learned how to unlock the lower back problems on my own, but when I started getting thoracic mishaps, I sought out a new provider in EY.
May 30, 2013 2:05 pm at 2:05 pm #9731431st timerParticipantI started this thread a year ago. I want u to know, I became a huge believer in chiropractic treatment. Four members of my family have been helped by my chiropractor, BH. I now know so many others that he’s helped, too, including a toddler who was scheduled for tubes in her ears for recurring ear infections, but opted to try the chiropractor first and so far only one episode of a slight infection that went away quickly without antibiotics.
May 30, 2013 2:55 pm at 2:55 pm #973144bekitzurParticipantHaifagirl: I heard “popping” and “cracking” during treatment.
May 30, 2013 5:38 pm at 5:38 pm #973145Rabbi PerfectMemberI have (as I’m sure many of us who are sitting in learning full-time) some pretty bad lower back issues, and I’m considering a chiropractor (or maybe PT) anybody have any suggestions?
May 30, 2013 6:20 pm at 6:20 pm #973146agentParticipantFor lower back pain try a PT first. My husband tried both and the chiropractor just made him have more pain. So far the PT is helping him.
May 30, 2013 6:26 pm at 6:26 pm #973147oomisParticipantI come from a family of chiropractors and have seen first hand what an amazing healing specialty it can be. No it cannot cure every ailment, but for a bad back, neck, and a whole host of other problems, it can accomplish miracles.
I took my own kids to my chirpracric family members since birth(they are all adult now) and it really helped them when they were sick or had headaches. I myself went to them throughout my pregnancies, and my sciatica went away LITERALLY in an instant. I remember vividly the day I could not get up off the floor, I was in so much pain, and my brother adjusted me right where I lay, and a second later the pain was completely gone. I thank Hashem for giving over such a talent into the hands of specialists who do not need to rely on drugs to be effective. When drugs are necessary, they are a miracle, but when chiro care can help, it too is miraculous. (And yes, you can hear a POP).
May 30, 2013 7:20 pm at 7:20 pm #973148haifagirlParticipantI used to go to the most wonderful chiropractor. He truly worked miracles. But he doesn’t believe in doing the kind of techniques that caused popping and cracking. He believes that bursting the nitrogen bubble is not so healthy. He also told me there aren’t very many practitioners of his technique (I don’t know the name of it) in the U.S.
I also went to a PT and didn’t find her to be so helpful. (I hope she doesn’t frequent the CR.)
May 30, 2013 9:22 pm at 9:22 pm #973149HealthParticipantThere are good and bad in every specialty, but chiropractors seem to have more quacks than others. Be very careful who you choose. Adjusting a pt. is not always benign.
May 30, 2013 10:19 pm at 10:19 pm #973150oomisParticipantNot every chiropractic movement causes a popping. Health is correct, however, there are SOME quacks in the field, just as there are quack medical doctors, quack dentists, quack psychologists, quack lawyers etc. In fact there are so many quacks in all these fields, that one ought to DUCK when one of them walks by.
May 30, 2013 11:44 pm at 11:44 pm #973151Think firstMemberI got into an accident one week before my wedding and could not move my neck an inch in either direction . I went to a chiropractor for one week straight and each day it healed a bit more.
I do have some that are better than others
September 4, 2013 4:24 am at 4:24 am #973152bekitzurParticipantSeptember 4, 2013 12:21 pm at 12:21 pm #973153anonymous251ParticipantBekitzur- that is amazing. Any way of my getting your chiropracter’s info?
September 4, 2013 7:16 pm at 7:16 pm #973154bekitzurParticipantDon’t know. If there is a way I can give it to the mods and they can give it to you…
September 8, 2013 1:20 am at 1:20 am #973155oomisParticipantBekitzur – refuah shelaima. I believe firmly in chiropractic. I especially appreciate that it is drug-free care. Not all people can be helped (just as with conventional medical care, btw), but so many are.
September 8, 2013 6:58 pm at 6:58 pm #973156funnyboneParticipantHow many chiropractors does it take to change a lightbulb?
Only 1, but you’ll need 2x a week visits to make sure its aligned properly.
I highly recommend John Sarno’s book/video. He has helped millions of people.
September 8, 2013 7:11 pm at 7:11 pm #973157Bookworm120ParticipantI highly recommend chiropractic care. Trust me, it’s worth it. I’d be the Hunchback of the Coffee Room if not for my chiropractor. Sitting up straight in front of my computer as I type away in the CR is a bit of a challenge. 😛
