I sometimes listen to YWN Radio. Frequently there are songs featuring children’s voices. I find it painful when I hear them and think of the damage (I hope not permanent) they may be doing to their vocal chords.
Since, as a community, we seem to value music, and children’s singing, why don’t we put decent music programs in the schools so the children can learn to sing properly, in a way that won’t harm them.
I keep remembering a teacher I had who could barely speak above a whisper because of the damage he sustained from improper singing. I would hate for that to happen to any of our children.

Many of these kids are trained vocally and take some form of lessons. One some occassions you hear some straining but it can’t be any worse than what many kids do when they sing at home on Shabbos. Maybe save the whales is a better project to take up…

November 23, 2010 5:17 pm at 5:17 pm #713321not IMemberI would assume that the chjildren that do sing in concert etc do have the training. If they wouldn’t it would sound like they are screaming to reach that high note than the beutiful singing that they do..
You wouldn’t think that of the adult men that sing.. ’cause obviously they are trained’
November 23, 2010 5:26 pm at 5:26 pm #713323haifagirlParticipantI’m a musician and a former music teacher. I hear straining. When I’ve spoken to other musicians, including singers, they say the same thing.

I know plenty about the voice, you are making much ado about nothing.

Yeah sometimes they strain, but I think thats mostly live and its because they are nervous. On CDs you dont often hear strain.

It takes a lot to do permanent damage to the chords, more like daily abuse…an occasional scratchy note here and there will not cause any damage.

On the odd chance that you are serious please become a singer. We need more talent like Shwekey and less of some other singers I won’t publicly mention!

I dont know who you are but all I could tell you is if you ever want to get anywhere near as good as Shwekey you need to take a lot of voice lessons at a top teacher and practice a lot!!!

thats what i’m doing. i’m currently going to voice lessons once a week and practicing basically 24/7 (u can ask my family) and im hoping that the lessons will eventually pay off and i’ll get my money back (voice lessons are extremely expensive) but i already got lessons when i was a kid in MBC

I REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALY want to know who you are!!!
What’s gonna be the name of your album?
Which album were you in (in MBC)?
November 29, 2010 2:28 am at 2:28 am #713336WIYMembercb1
I know lessons are expensive, I have taken some lessons over the years. It only pays off if you practice a lot and practice correctly.
I am thinking of maybe picking it up again. I have the name of a top guy but hes extremely expensive and its a shlep as hes not local. If I had someone tops in Brooklyn I would maybe go.
Can I ask you if you are taking lessons by a frum Jew or by a non Jew?
Is it in Boro Park/Flatbush or Manhattan or elsewhere?
What are they charging you and how long are the sessions?
Thanks!!!
