I’m sure many of you have had a child with croup cough.

What’s your solution to getting rid of it?

I have found at night when it gets really bad you can either steam the bathroom and let the child sit in the room for a few minutes or take the child outside in the cold. there is also a perscription dexamethasone an elixer (i think a steriod) that the doctor gave for my son.

Take the child to the doctor. You can also steam the bathroom and sit in there with him for a while. Sometimes even a drive in the cold will help.

Put a vaporizer in the room while he sleeps

Either take the child to the Doctor, or if the child is gasping for air take it to the Emergency Room at the hopital. Feedback from the Medical professionals!

Eclipse, You are right, but after he got rid what’s should he do? He should get Vitamin D3 drops.

it may be a 1000 IU daily at least (double is recommended) followed by blood tests after every few weeks.

No arguing, and with full responsibility -for a one week old baby. Hatzlacha!

when steaming the bathroom is not an option e.i. shabbos (I’m not talking in a case when the child gasps for air, thats a case of pikuach nefesh) you can put the child by an open freezer, it realy helps.

Make sure the kid has the sound of a barking seal otherwise it might be epiglotitis (drooling and sitting up/tripoding), a medical emergency!

Croup- If the steam from the bathroom doesn’t work, the kid has to be nebulized with epi (plain or racemic) and then given a steroid.

Croup is far scarier than it is dangerous. But it does need to be addressed competently to avoid respiratory distress, which is VERY serious. Cold air or a steamy room can alleviate it. But if it is chronic, or related to asthma, more medical intervention might be needed. My son has asthma and would get croup with the change of the seasons, and also asthmatic at the same time. His doctor put him on twice daily Albuteral treatments along with steroids for a period of time and the croup disappeared. He still gets it maybe once a year though, and we deal with it. Croup is very manageable, good luck.
