February 2, 2011 2:37 am at 2:37 am #1056980✡onegoal™ParticipantSure as of 8:32PM (Chicago time) there is light snow but winds at about 50 MPH causing you to practically be blinded and it hurts to walk into the wind. More coming…

February 2, 2011 2:12 pm at 2:12 pm #1056989gefenParticipantDangerous but awesome last night. We just sat by the window watching the blowing snow – and I mean BLOWING, and hearing and seeing the thunder and lightening. What a combination. As of this morning, I believe we have well over a foot and are expecting a few more inches. First time in 12 yrs they actually closed schools here.
February 2, 2011 2:45 pm at 2:45 pm #1056990✡onegoal™ParticipantJust got back from Shul (B”H it’s only 5 houses away) had to empty the snow out of my pants. Some parts have 4 inches while others have 5 feet for example in front of the shul there was a five foot mountain but B”H I didn’t have to climb it. As I write it is still snowing heavily and we are expecting another 6 inches. I was listening to the radio last night and heard that there are tons of people trapped on Lake Shore Drive for 5+ hours. By the way the streets all have about 1 foot of snow in them and are nearly impossible to drive on. Last night I was looking out my window and a Mexican fellow got stuck smack in the middle of the street so I ran out with a shovel an shoveled out a parking space for him.
February 2, 2011 2:47 pm at 2:47 pm #1056991TheGoqParticipantthanks for the visual gefen reminds me of the storm of 79 we were off of school for a week and played in the snow all day making tunnels and sledding it was an awesome week.
February 2, 2011 4:21 pm at 4:21 pm #1056992psach libi bsorasechaMemberawesome! looking out the window, everything is covered! totally white out conditions. i would say tho, it was worse earlier this morning. now its just flurrying and def not as windy as last night, but they say this blizzard won’t end till 3. altho, i wouldn’t call it a blizzard anymore (then again, what do i know) there’s a lot of snow on the ground already, not so much falling.

February 2, 2015 5:02 pm at 5:02 pm #1056998🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantso when NY was expecting 20 inches it made every news website 24/7. we just got 19 and it seems to be business as usual (except all the schools being closed) I couldn’t even find a final tally anywhere until I literally googled the question.
GO CHICAGO, WE ROCK!!!!!!!!!
February 2, 2015 5:33 pm at 5:33 pm #1056999Avram in MDParticipantChicago metro area’s population: 9.5 million.
BosWash corridor’s population: 45-50 million.
That’s why the latter region’s storm potential made the media go bonkers 🙂

July 23, 2021 4:31 pm at 4:31 pm #1994184GadolhadorahParticipantMayor Lighthead has called a news conference to comment on rumors that a bumped blizzard eruv shabbos Nachmu is a direct consequence of global warming and a primary contributing factor to gun violence in the city.
July 23, 2021 6:38 pm at 6:38 pm #1994191☕️coffee addictParticipantGadolhadorah,
You’re sounding like you are making sense
You’re sounding like a republican
(Did you bump your head or something 🤕
July 23, 2021 7:59 pm at 7:59 pm #1994205Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantOk, Gadol Hadorah is jus a little gaava, but are we allowed to call a person by such a derogatory name?! I believe halakha is that you don’t use such names even if the person himself uses it. So, just say “Chicago Mayor”
July 23, 2021 8:13 pm at 8:13 pm #1994212🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantOh please tell me you’re joking 🤦🏻♀️
July 24, 2021 11:37 pm at 11:37 pm #1994297GadolhadorahParticipant“GH: Did you bump your head or something”….
Actually yes. Was trying to replace air filter in the attic HVAC unit and stood up too quickly a few days ago. But my comment about “Her Honor, Mayor Lightfoot” was intentional about her having a lightheaded moment when she claimed that “we cannot arrest our way out of this wave of shootings”, and the only solution is to pour more money into social programs in low-income neighborhoods so they will stop shooting one another. While I agree that more funding in community development, job programs etc. is needed over the long-term, they need to stop the hemorrhaging now or there won’t be a “long-term”. That means flooding those neighborhoods with law enforcement, reopening the courts and aggressive prosecution and incarceration instead of the inner city versions of “catch and release”. And yes, this is coming from your resident CR progressive, bleeding heart, left wing, liberal.
July 25, 2021 8:25 am at 8:25 am #1994381Always_Ask_QuestionsParticipantGh, there’s a simple way to test your fellow progressives on sincerity of their concerns about the poor: education. They should be in the front of the movement to test school performance, close non performing schools, open charters, if not vouchers for private schools. If they do not, then they care about politics, not poor people. Side note: president is proposing flat federal budget for charters among adding money for everything else, House changed it to reduce amount.
