They do that in pupa too, I guess it was adopted from Belz, like many other minhagim.

No fish on Pesach stems from Vishnitz…..

There are also some who actually dont even eat Gebrokst on Achron.

I think some Munkatchers if I am not mistaken.

All of tehillim on shabbos mevorchim, chabad.

Not taking shirayim onto a plate, comes from Vizhnitz now very common (so I’ve heard).

Not eating fish with a fork, Vizhnitz. I think it has something to do with taking the fish’s koach over ayin hara.

Using an ashkenazi knot on the shel yad but winding outwards the sfard way, chabad.

Veisse zokken on weekdays — AFAIK not anyone’s minhag but I’ve seen some Satmars doing it. Is it a new takana?

Not walking side by side with your spouse—-Ger

There are some other exclusive Minhagim with Gerrers. Can anyone name them?

Also, which minhag is it not to take a son in law with the same name as the father of the girl? Or vice versa?

“Does anyone know how to make skverrer tzibilis kugel? I had it once and it’s mean.”

I had a geust this shabbos and before shabbos we asked him what special shabbos food he likes, he said “tzvibel kugal” (neighter he nor I are Square). so for the first time we made onion kugal, it was deli.

    here is the recipy;

dough: 3 cups flour, 3/4 cup water, 3/4 cup oil, 3/4 tsp. salt

filing: 3 lg. onions, 1 egg, 2 Tbsp. oil for frying.

Fry the oniong until golden, cool mix in the egg. Knead the dough, divide in two part, roll each part to 1/4 in. thickness spread the onions, roll in jellyroll fasion, brush with egg & sprinkle seasem seeds back on 350 for 45 minutes.

Now it was my turn to LOL.

BTW, eating/not eating fish on pashach has more to do with the matzav of fish in that area. In places that were avalible live fish that didnt have a chashash chametz (due to alcohole in the mouth of the not live fish) they ate fish. Were that was not an option they ate “faltshe fish”.

There is whole discussion about Tuna fish and why it’s not a problem what they eat and that it stays in their stomach, cuz of how long it takes them to bring up the nets and that it stomach is digesting its contents way after it has been caught enough time to digest everything. So Tuna shouldn’t be a problem LH”D.

Pardon my ignorance, but why is a tuna’s diet a problem even if the food isn’t entirely digested? We don’t eat the stomach, we throw it away with the rest of the organs.

Creedmoorer Chassidim drink a glass of bleach every day after the shofar (which in Creedmoor is a Civil War era bugle) is blown. Bleach of course symbolizes cleansing the neshomo of all avyrois. Machmirim mix Ajax with their bleach to scour their neshomos.

And they are of course very machmir to blow shofar all year round to be m’oirer rachmei shomayim and remind the riboinishloylem of the sound of the fire engines that he should make sure they always come late.

    #972631

LOL yep – but you can’t hear the shofar between all the emergency vehicles!

Chabad – gebrokts on the 8th day only (but it seems Belz does the same). Shmini Atzeres in the sukkah regardless of weather (probably also most Chassidim). No dairy on Pesach (not everyone; seems to be adhered to more in large communities like NY); kiddush on mashke Shmini Atzeres night (the Rebbe ZYA did NOT hold by this and I don’t either – I use a very, very large glass of wine). And no sleeping in the sukkah.

Nadverna eineklich eat in the Sukkah Shemini Azeres and do not eat gebrochts on acharon shel Pesach because the last day is just like the first day of Yom Tov.

about eating with hands, i heard a cute vort “minhag avoseinu, byadeinu!”

about not having a shver with same name as you – i think it’s from R’ Yehuda Hachassid. I’ve heard it said – halevai he would have written the Aseres Hadibros!

about eating in the sukkah shemini atzeres – many chassidim do it.

If your point is, that its a small issue, I know there are some Rabonim who are VERY machmir Not to take a SIL with the same name.

As far as gebrokts on the 8th say ONLY, most pple hold that way.

The ones who don’t, are the exceptions.

How about the minhug to make Kiddush Shabbos afternoon on brunfen (whiskey)?

IS: People who took on Chasidishe minhagim after the war generally came from families that had Chasidishe minhagim in Europe before the war.

Also, there are few if any people who care more about it than the aseres hadibros.

Aishes Chayil, I did not mean to make light of the minhag. In fact, my family keeps this minhag as well! (If a situation would come up where we would want a shidduch but the prospective shver would have the same name as the boy or the shvigger same name as the girl, we would ask our rav… I’ve heard stories where people added a name to the girl and she’s called by her new name for this reason!) My point is (and this if for shlishi as well) that there are so many people who treat this and various minhagim as “???? ??? ????” that HALEVAI they would treat the Aseres Hadibros with the same stringency. i.e. Lo Sirtzach – don’t embarrass others! etc…

Yes, I hear what your saying. But as far as this particular minhag,I think thre is a Kabbalsitic reason which pple fear.

I’ve once heard that it can shorten the life of either party.

    Is that familiar to anyone?

Also, Chabad chassidim wear tzitzis that are tied differently.

Is whisky or vodka for Shabbos morning kiddush Chassidish only? The Lubavitcher Rebbe ZYA was actually very opposed to it but many Chabad chassidim still do it. (I use wine most Shabbosim because I make kiddush more than once, although if I feel up to it on Shabbos Mevorchim I use “96.”)

    Some Chabad Minhagim:

    * Study daily Tanya

*After all morning prayers recite Tehillim

    * Rosh Chodesh: one studies a verse from the chapter of Tehillim that corresponds to his age, with commentary, if possible

*Complete a tractate of the Talmud each day of the Nine Days

*On Hanukkah One remains close to the lights for about half an hour

*Not sure if unique to chabad only, but chabad does not

point one’s finger toward the Sefer Torah when it is raised

    * When wrapping Teffilan the wrap (around the arm) at the crease in the elbow does not count as one of the 7 wraps. Also leave a space between the elbow wrap and the 7 wraps around the forearm

Some more chabad minhagim. (Note that so many chabad minhagim have to do with learning)

Say a perek tehillim corresponding to your age.

“Hayom yom” — a daily thought of chassidus said after shacharis. The original book was written by the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe a good fifty+ years before “a lesson a day” was popular.

Finishing tehillim on the monthly cycle

Finishing the whole tehillim on shabbos mevorchim.

    RaMBaM yomi.

    Chita”s.

    No daf.

    Chasidus every morning before shacharis.

Dviding up shas every year on 19 kislev.

Using nets to catch tuna is somewhat of a modern innovation, before the 1960s the majority of tuna was caught by hook and line. Even today not all tuna is caught in nets.

Isn’t the hook and line a new innovation? The Gemara speaks of nets, never of fishing rods.

    600 Kilo,

It seems like it is a Galitzianer Minhag that was adopted by the rest of the Chassider Velt, today. I read somewhere that the Tzanzer Rav used to make Kiddush on wiskey. But, when he travelled to Hungary, he didn’t.

The issue I have heard with tuna is that when they catch them all together some Rabbonim are worried that you get dolphins mixed in and then they are all processed, chopped up, and canned without the dolphins ever being removed.
