Where do we light, in the dorm where we sleep or in the dinning room where we sleep. Maybe in the Bais Medrish where we live or in the coffee room where we spend our time

Where the hanhalla tells you to.

And you move out of the dorm for chanuka, because it’s dangerous to light so many candles in the yeshiva

Aren’t rules meant to be burned – broken.

So then it’s where they say not to light

Gee, you’ll really feel good about yourself if a couple of kids die in a fire you start breaking the rules. Won’t that be a hooooooooooooooooooot.

Just imagine how much fun it will be taking off seder to go to levaya’s and shiva houses and shloshim’s etc. But you should balance that against the fact that you’ll probably sign up to learn mishnayos for them.

    This isn’t funny.

@KolHaolam: LAKEWOOD: Massive fire at Yeahiva dorm, apparently started from candles of a #Chanukah #Menorah. Heavy flames can be seen. FD on scene.

There’s a machlokes between R’ Moshe Feinsten Zatzal and R” Aharon Kotler Zatzal. R’ Moshe held you light where you sleep. R’ Aharon held you light where you eat. Peacefull, as you pointed out, it’s dangerous to light in the dorm. This isn’t the only story I’ve heard about this happening. Therefore, a lot of yeshivos go like R’ Aharon

The Rama says that these days, that the Pirsumei Nisa is for the household, even the Rosh would agree to light where you eat.

“One can fulfill a Torah obligation when

    lighting the Chanukah menorah. The

    Torah mitzvah one fulfills is

    “V’nishmartem me’od

    l’nafshoseichem” (Devarim 4:15) which

stipulates that one must take safety

    precautions and protect oneself and

others. Fire is extremely dangerous and

many people have been injured or killed,

R”l, when proper safety measures were

    not taken regarding Chanukah flames.

The other mitzvos of Chanukah are

    d’Rabbanan.”
