tmobile samsung comeback, dropped it at least 30,000 time on pavement, battery pack falls out but it always turns on again…once when i was having issues with my phone, tmobile gave me a loaner phone which i returned when i received my working phone…also they allowed me to unlock the phone and (as someone in the cr suggested i got an israeli prepaid sim card, so i always have an israel number… :))

Sprint. Blackberry style. Great calling, texting, service (both phone and customer), and you can get affordable plans.

Verizon. BB Curve. my phone doesn’t have a name, but if pressed, I’d go with Herschel.

    #783018

Verizon, and a plain vanilla LG phone. It’s getting harder and harder to get phones that don’t have data plans. I barely ever text, and do not want the internet in my pocket.

goodness…ok. so i started out with the HTC evo…the old one running android 1.5. then u bought (accidentally) a stolen incredible which i couldnt use as a pnone…made a lovely PDA though…then i bought myself the Droid X2 but i had to return that beause i need unlimited data and my provider (pageplus) doesnt provide that. so i exchanged it for a boost mobile galaxy prevail and thats absolute garbage so ill be returning that…so what im FINALLY going to end up with is the HTC Evo 3D on the Spring network. mind you all this took place in one year.

    Blackberry Bold through Verizon Wireless.

While the device works fine — the email is often on my Blackberry before it is available to my desktop or laptop computer — there is a good reason why people call these things “Crack-berry”. It is addictive! Were it not for Shabat I’d never turn it off.

Were it not for Shabat I’d never turn it off.

this is the reason so many teens are texting on Shabbos. I heard from Rabbi Wallerstein that he went to Reb Shmuel Kaminetzky who told him that 20% (that is a not normally high number) of teens are texting on Shabbos and that is only as far as he can tell. Does anyone realize how many that is. Its not a normal thing!

But back to coffee’s question which is more important….

I have a prepaid unlimited texting and talking and a verizon LG phone. Great plan- its so cheap and unlimited.

My phone is celebratIngs it’s first birthday this week BE”H. As I said it’s survives drops well cuz I have a case on it. The battery lasts a few days on if I just use it for texting an not vibrate. Talk time I can get 4 hours or more. Blue tooth uses more battery. I would suggest getting a screen cover cuz it has a large screen. If you have anymore questions I would be glad to help. Hatzlacha phone shopping

I have an extremely old Motorola flip phone. It does not take pix, it does connect to the internet and it does not text. I simply makes phone calls. I would get a newer, smaller phone if I could get one without all of the bells and whistles. I never have my phone turned on – I only turn it on if I need to make a phone call. It is a prepaid phone and I use the least expensive plan which is 100.00 card that is good for one year. Any unused time is then carried forward to the next year. I usually have at least 50.00 worth of airtime left over at the end of each year. The battery is amazing and I recharge it about every 2 months. My carrier is Rogers (Canada).

yentingyenta- thanks so much for the info. One more question, how is the reception on the phone. I think my daughter will just order it and hope for the best. I just want a basic phone for her and most of them you need to buy a data package which is annoying.

bli ayin hara, verizon has phenomenal service, in NYC (where i go to school) in NJ (where i live) and the mountains (where i wish i was for the summer). the one time i can remember losing service, besides the subway and the few spots in the mountains was on a train ride home a few months ago. the service was fading in and out for like 20 min but when the train pulled into my town, i got full reception. was a weird fluke and hasnt happened since then.

i got this phone cuz my old one broke and this was the most normal free upgrade. its a great phone.

Nebach, nebach that people text on Shabbos. I also heard a shiur by Rabbi Wallerstein where he spoke about this. How very, very, very sad. Putting aside melacha for the moment, Shabbos is THE day of connection to HaShem, more so than during the workweek. How sad that people feel so distant that they need to connect to others. What about a sefer Tehilim?!

And yes, the siddur is the best connection. Never runs out of battery power and it never causes any health problems.

I have Verizon and boruch HaShem am very pleased with it. Service is great, though on the subway there isn’t service. True, it’s not cheap. I do have texting on the phone, though not a texting plan, which means I can text/receive texts when necessary, but it deters me from abusing it since I don’t have free texting.

I do not have Internet on my phone.

Speaking of cell phones, one thing I wish I could implement is not to talk on my phone in the street, at least not while walking. Meaning, at least stand to the side if I need to make/receive a call. Have to put effort into it . . .

Like other gashmiyus things in this world, we have to use cell phones for the right purposes.
