In the snow, without warning, I skidded and slammed straight into the guardrail. Backed up & continued, minus one headlight. Baruch HaSHem.

If a car goes off the derech, do you give it to Oorah?

I should’ve saved my laugh for this comment … as opposed to the thread title.

Hey, cars at risk is a serious issue that we are facing nowadays. Back in Europe, you almost never heard about our grandparents’ cars going off, but now…

But I feel that they just need to be steered in the right direction, and everything will turn out okay. Don’t ignore the warning signs! Rabbi Mechanic has a great program that will answer all of your car’s questions.

if a car goes off the derech you should show it unconditional love and it will no doubt return.

    #772910

Most yeshivish cars are old enough to drive themselves.

Somehow I don’t find this thread amusing!

I don’t think anyone’s taking the tragedy of someone c”v stopping to be shomer Torah umitzvos lightly.

    But I see your point.

Or maybe aries doesn’t think jokes about car accidents are funny.

When fathers come home from the kiddush stone drunk, what do you expect?

Don’t you mean when bochurim come home from a date after having too much beer?

Boruch H my car is very frum and stays firmly on the derech (for sure when I’m around, hopefully when its with other people also!) and is even shomer negiah as it wont touch other cars. What hiddurim does your car have? Like veohavto lerayacar komoicar, kabeid es oveecar v’es imecar etc etc

My car is Shomer Shabbos (and Yom Tov) so unfortunately it doesn’t go to shul on those days! (Is that considered going off the derech?)

Zeeskite, I feel it was in poor taste, especially when there is a thread concerning OTD kids running.

And PBA, I see your point, are jokes about car accidents funny? There was a truck on the highway in Israel that plowed into…….

Or remember the one about the teen driving who swerved and killed………….

Or what about the truck who didn’t see the little kid……

Or maybe the car that jumped the curb near a bus stop and……

Or the van in Monsey who went in reverse instead of Drive and backed into Mrs……….

Hmmm, I fail to see the humor in it.

    #772921

I don’t think anyone means to make fun of accidents. I think they are just trying to make a play on words.

    #772922

And my car stays on the derech for the most part simply because it has a GPS….. surely SOMEONE here can come up with a GOOD use for the letters GPS here. I, unfortunately, am stumped.

As I said “this” particular play on words is inappropriate and not amusing. Maybe you can consider changing the title of the thread and then have fun with your car stories. Such as “Cars that go on their own derech” or “Cars that have a mind of their own”.

Maybe you can consider changing the title of the thread and then have fun with your car stories.

But this terminology really fits much better to cars than to kids.

So probably we should just stop calling people who stop observing the torah “going off the derech”.

please get real!!! Mishenichnas Adar Marbim Besimcha!!! it is just a fun homourous thread, if you didnt get around to eating breakfast, so sit down and eat now and you will see the humor.

yes, one can make light even of the serious things in life, life is too tough as it is not to make a joke once in a while.

    Zeeskeit

please stop apologizing, you are a zeeskeit and i find this very funny, there is no reason to apologize, if someone finds it offensive, there are plenty of other threads to read.

and i, well i dont have a car, but i do have a motorbike and i pray that he stays on the right derech all the time.

Zeeskeit, thanks, I know you were not making fun of the kids. But anyone dealing with the kids and the real issues would not find it amusing. It is such a hurtful issue and it is not going to get any better after the pronouncements at the mental health conference.

    I didn’t and don’t know of such a conference.

I generally feel bad for the world at large on the days Mommy lets me roam free. Today was one! Just coincidence.

(I’m not in your caliber, but maybe loosening up and smiling just a drop would help, you, them, everyone. ???? ?????? ?????, a bright face, a good word… <respectfully bowing out>)

aries – i’d bet you that if you gave this thread to the (temporarily) off-the-derech teens you know, they too would laugh. 🙂

we’re not laughing at their tzarus. we’re laughing with them.

    #772945

What if your tzarus is the same as someone else’s? Laugh together.

Any Jewish kid going OTD is OUR tzarah, not just “theirs”. We cry with them and for them, and we laugh with them at the tzarah, not at them.
