My previous camera (canon)was expensive, didn’t work well and used a LOT of batteries. I’m looking to buy an inexpensive camera (100$ – 175$)that works well. Any suggestions? I’d greatly appreciate it. TIA.

    Canon is the best..Nufin 2 talk abt…

canon. i had the sd450 for 4 years. my dad has a newish gen rebel 15 mp. i like the SD line of canon but the AS line runs a little cheaper than the SD line. SD line is rechargeable Li-on battery and mine lasted 4 years. the AS line uses AA batteries so its a trade off between price and batteries really IMHO. hatzlachoh with finding a camera.

Getting a camera with a Li-on battery should be best. However, people who have hands that tremble are better off w/ the AS line, since the cameras in that line are bigger and heaver than the SD ones. Good Luck. Hope you’ll be happy with your decision.

Coffee addict: Hmmm. Either way I’ll be giving away personal info.;) Thanks anyway.

LuvMe: Any experience with them? What model? Thanks for your response.

tryinghard: I sure hope my hands don’t tremble at my age:)

Ms. Critique who may always know the answers correctly: Sorry, I know this doesn’t belong on this thread, but I’ve been wondering for quite some time now; do you always know the answers correctly, or you may sometimes know the answers correctly? BTW, you sure are “Ms. Critique”.;)

You might want to look for one that comes with its own rechargeable battery.

    Did you try google?

yeah i have the m341 i think. its very easy to use, has the battery you want, and is cheaper than canon. canon does have some cooler features like all the effects, but tyhe kodaks have tagging peoples names on their pictures, and the newer ones have face detection.

ok so i dont know why no-one knows about this camera but i went to b&h and got the last of the old model for a wacked out price. its called the panasonic lumix and it rocks. the standard lens is a leica, the battery life is amazing, the quality is great, and its easier to use then canon. i convinced a friend to buy it and he told me he doesnt chap why its not so big. go for it.

K, first of all, I DON’T recommend canon cameras. I had one for about a year, and it broke down on me a number of times throughout the year. I also don’t recommend Kodak because I have a friend that had it and all her pictures came out really fuzzy. The skinnier the camera, the better, because of 2 reasons

    1. I was the only one with a really fat camera and a skinnier camera is easier to hold around.

    2. you don’t have to recharge 2 batteries when your not really sure if they are really charged, but if you have a skinnier camera, you just have to charge a little battery until the light flickers. The cameras that I told you about are really long lasting and in good shape. My friends have those types and they had those ones for ages. I personally love the Olympus one, it’s my favorite because it’s small and easier to carry around and it’s great quality.

toi- I went to b&h about a year ago and got the same camera you did. Best camera i ever had. for about $20 you can get another battery and youre good for a full day when on vacation. Extremly clear pictures and a great zoom.

Thank you, everyone. Toi, that sounds great. I’ll definitely try it out. I don’t live near B&H though. Do they have a website, or can I call them? TIA

supergirl – maybe your friends pix came out fuzzy, but i love mine. it has awesome battery life ( i charged it before camp and once on the last day for like ten minutes thats it) and it was so cheap that if i break it, its not then end of the world and i could buy a new one.

in any case observanteen, hope you buy a good one

I have not researched camera models recently, but the following advice and recommendations apply for the average person buying a new camera.

The following three items are absolutely essential in a camera:

    1) It needs to take quality pictures.

    a. It needs to take good video. How good is based on your own requirements.

    2) It needs to be simple to use. The average snapshooter will want to simply point-and-shoot most of the time.

    3) It needs to be easy to carry around. You will be less likely to take a bulky camera on trips.

    Also recommended is CNET.

Go to other sale sites and read customer reviews and comments as well as professional reviews.
