Did I ” see” any of you at the Bronx zoo yesterday?? I absolutely love going on chol hamoed ( succos or pesach) love being surrounded by so many Jews. I saw a man in his chol hamoed garb, straimel etc, he dropped the zoo map and one of the African American workers picked it up and ran after him, was super polite did not even give his attire a second glance. I can tell you that seeing people dressed like that is not common in the Bronx, it was very nice to see.
October 4, 2012 3:02 pm at 3:02 pm #898852popa_bar_abbaParticipantOne time, I was on a date at the Bronx zoo, and my date was scared of the peacocks that roam around. I had to be a gallant knight and chase it away.
Anyway, the Bronx zoo is the stupidest zoo ever. You pay admission, but then if you want to the animals you need to be a separate fee. Like to see the african animals or the asian animals. It’s ok to charge a separate fee for the merry go round–but not for seeing the animals.
Also, there is too far a walk between bathrooms, and it is not at all well marked which way to walk to a bathroom.
Also, the whole thing is too big of a walk, and the silly wagon train doesn’t let you get on and off at different places easily (and costs extra…)
And, when we were on the silly wagon train, they told me that my nephew was not allowed to eat the cookie he was eating. I just said yes, and did nothing. Let them tell my 2 year old nephew he can’t eat his cookie. I wish them the best of luck.
That’s all for now.

Of course.
When you test drive a car, do you drive on a private track, or do you drive on a regular street? You drive on a regular street so you’ll know what it is like.
When you go on a date, you can’t just go yourselves in a nice car to a nice place and be all sweet and cute–you fill the back of the minivan with screaming kids and moldy cheerios and then you see how you like each others company.

You’re hysterical 🙂
October 4, 2012 4:12 pm at 4:12 pm #898856WolfishMusingsParticipantEeees and I love to go to zoos on dates. Unfortunately, our schedules don’t allow us to go on Chol HaMoed this year, but perhaps at some point in the next few weeks…

October 4, 2012 4:33 pm at 4:33 pm #898858BaalHaboozeParticipantreminds me of an old yid in my shul, who probably doesn’t have 2 coins to rub together, yet he is the happiest man i know always with a quip for every situation. Many years ago someone asked him,
“Shloimeh, you take a bus to work?? Why not go in a car?”
“What?? Why should I go in a $25,000 car, when I can go in a $200,000 bus, with a driver?”

No, of course not. She’s my wife.

No, you don’t. On Wed. it’s free. I once made the mistake of going to the Bronx zoo on Chol Hamoed on a Wed. Almost every Jew in the tri-state was there.
October 4, 2012 6:22 pm at 6:22 pm #898861MorahRachMemberIt was not SO packed yesterday. And yes Wednesday’s are free, but seeing the gorillas and the 3D ride is not included. Last pesach was much more crowded, I think that is because it poured yesterday. We waited and went right after the rain let up, but people were probably nervous.

I went there last Chol Hamoed Sukkos on Tues. afternoon, of course and it was full with Jews. Tues. afternoon used to be free, but now they charge a $1 per person. At least there is some time that they don’t charge full admission.

Who takes animals to the zoo?
Don’t worry Wolf, I knew perfectly well that Eeees is your beloved wife.

Believe it or not, I’ve gone to places where there are no Frum Jews, but it’s a little far.
