whoever said surprised? just impressed is all
March 30, 2009 9:24 pm at 9:24 pm #657324aussieboyParticipantarievim: Surprised, impressed, both come from the same thing.
March 30, 2009 9:27 pm at 9:27 pm #657327areivimzehlazehParticipantNo they do not aussie. You can be impressed with a Gadol Hador. Impressed means to make an impression (the viewer gets an impression of the person doing the action). It has a positive connotation, so usually it’s “a good impression”.
March 30, 2009 9:29 pm at 9:29 pm #657328anonymisssParticipantmoish, my post got lost in the mail. I said before that when someone is in this kind of situation, it’s not easy to see things objectively. The fact that you’re able to “step out if it,” see it, and are trying to do something about it is quite impressive.
I did not say that I was surprised.

moish01: The diffrence between addiction and habit is that addiction you physically cannot stop doingor you will be physically hurt while a habit is just something you want to do really badly, but if you tried hard enough to stop yourself you would be able.
not true. stopping an addiction doesn’t necessarily have to do with anything physical. think about it.
March 31, 2009 2:41 am at 2:41 am #657331anonymisssParticipantOh, I see my earlier posts surfaced on the previous page. Moish, what you said about addictions and being physical, if you go back a page and read that post of mine, I said that, too. I agree with you.

April 3, 2009 2:35 pm at 2:35 pm #657337aussieboyParticipantanonymisss. Everyone is always trying to break some habit or another, but if you want to help you can tell me how to stop being so lazy. Probably the worst thing about me is that im really lazy.
April 5, 2009 7:17 pm at 7:17 pm #65733822OldGoldParticipantHow do you break, it’s more like a bad Middah, but you don’t know when you do it? It’s like getting angry and people tell you, you have to stop getting angry but you don’t know when you get angry (it’s not that)?
April 5, 2009 7:50 pm at 7:50 pm #657340an open bookParticipant22oldgold: it’s hard to understand without specifics, but i think the 1st step is probably recognizing when you do it.
April 5, 2009 8:09 pm at 8:09 pm #657341hi100Memberreally,you have to know what causes the anger ( person, something that happens etc) and then figure out how to deal with it- like prepare yourself before etc.
April 7, 2009 11:52 pm at 11:52 pm #65734522OldGoldParticipantIf I don’t know what I do, how could I change it?
April 8, 2009 12:21 am at 12:21 am #657346an open bookParticipant22oldgold: wait, i thought you said you don’t know WHEN you do it, not what you do??
April 8, 2009 1:01 am at 1:01 am #657347hi100Member22oldgold: be aware of your feelings, and your actions and then you’ll figure out what triggers our anger.

April 8, 2009 4:56 am at 4:56 am #657349yoshiMemberIn my personal experience and from what I’ve witnessed, cold turkey (as opposed to the weaning process) is an excellent way to beat MANY bad habits. (I stress “many,” because obviously not ALL issues can be solved in such a way).
September 3, 2009 3:53 pm at 3:53 pm #657351areivimzehlazehParticipantThis entire thread boils down to: how to deal with the yetzer hora. I re-read the entire thing; was very helpful and an excellent reminder.
We also have a thread on how to fight the yetzer hora…
