So I mentioned to someone that I love bread dipped in vinegar and they told me it talks about that in the gemara. Something about being a great thing to eat in the hot weather…
Anyway, anyone know the source? I would love to know!

February 10, 2009 11:45 pm at 11:45 pm #638981yankdownunderMemberRaw unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar is delicious on Beer Battered Fish and Chips. Vinegar in general can be used on the skin like Aloe Vera for Sun Burns (I have used it myself). Vinegar has a cooling effect when applied to a Sun Burn. There is also a drink that the Slaves drank when picking Cotton in the Cotton Fields to cool off in the Summertime: 1 part Apple Cider Vinegar; 1 part Mo lases; 1part Ginger or Cayenne Pepper; and (Filtered ) water I heard that this drink was cooling when drunk and helped the Slaves pick Cotton on scorching hot days.

February 25, 2009 3:40 am at 3:40 am #638993David S.Memberthe term is usde in Mishna Shabbos 14:4. the context is that if one feels pain in his teeth on Shabbos he can’t fill his mouth with vinegar, as long as he dosen’t spit it out, because if he spits, it is for medicinal purposes. But he CAN dip bread in vinegar, and if he is healed, he is healed, and he isn’t ????. the prohibition stated here only applies when it is a small pain, but when it is an a big pain, in the words of the Taz on Orach Chayim 328:32: A big pain throughout his body, it is permitted to rinse and spit with vinegar.
