all the magazines and papers are expensive, but its worth buying it and having kosher entertainment than your kids going and getting entertainment from a non kosher source

Off topic. Where is Hamodia circulated that the avg income of their subscribers is $147,000? I wonder if Yeshiva administrators in the same markets would give the same number?

LOL! But you are missing the point here- the Yeshiva administrators are the only ones who answered the survey, so it’s the average of their salaries.

Rav M. Solomon said it very clearly in a drosho 2-3 years ago at the Agudah convention, and I quote “The Hamodia is not another paper that you should buy – it is the ONLY paper you should have in your house”. Of course he was not refering to the Yated – he was refering to bringing in any other daily into your house.

Why are you making an assertion that is clearly contradictory to what R. Solomon said?

BMG does advertise in Yated; it’s hard to believe they would if the mashgiach was against taking it into one’s home.

Then why would he use the word “only” (and considering that Nat actually capitalized it, I would think he meant to stress that word)?

Or, possibly, R. Solomon does not make the business decisions for BMG.

    Good point.

Had I personally heard the mashgiach say “only Hamodia” I would be more equipped to form an opinion, based on tone of voice and context, on what he meant. As is, I’ll assume he was not being literal. Besides my point about the BMG ads, I don’t think any of that other publication’s shortcomings would warrant exclusion from a good Jewish home.

OP, if you dont want to spend on the paper, can arrange with a friend who buys/ subscribes – reading a paper a few days later (even a week or so) is still full of good articles. Just took a Bina sitting here since Erev Pessach, (was bh very busy), and still enjoyed it.

Hamodia is a paper that follows the guidelines of the Gedolim.

There were times when hamodia refused to run certain ads and therfeore lost very (potential) profitable customers!!

As well their ads are not allowed to promote internet use. They do not have a website like Yated, Matzav.com.

not I- they DO have a Website- http://www.hamodia.com/ and it has been mentioned TWICE already in this thread so why try and deny it??

I find it very hard to believe that all the kollel yungeleit that buy it because R’ Mattisyahu said to are avgeraging $147,000 in income???

not I: The Hamodia refused to run some very important stories to “Torah Jewry” in order not to “offend” these customers and the advertisers they attract. Some truth. Lipshitz keeps on claiming, in public, that he has no connection to Matzav.

Now in 2021 they have a website Hamodia.com

That also are $5.00 for the weekly edition in NY &NJ and more in other areas.

They only offer a monthly subscription at $13-. No yearly subscription or discount is available.

I have been a long term subscriber, however it has gotten too expexpensive, and I have stopped subscribing.

Why in today’s internet web generation when you have YWN and many other websites to read the news free of charge would a person waste so much money still on the recent generation of reading newspapers? Any good reasons? Need something to read on Shabbos? We can take a break for 1 day a week from reading tragic news and instead read a nice story book on shabbos or learn from a sefer and after shabbos can read all the news we missed from the last day.

Has the price gone up faster than the price of gas or price of rent?

A year ago they offered a yearly subscription for under $80, now it is $13 a month which is $156 yearly. I think that is a very steep increase. If it went up to $100 yearly it would be a 25% increase which is high enough.

    > for under $80, now it is $13 a month which is $156 yearly.

that’s as fast as the price of gas.

According to a reliable inside source at Hamodia they have lost 100s of subscribers since they have raised their prices. Advertisers beware.

Subscribe to the Forward. Current promotion is $15/6 months. You will find it offers a very different editorial perspective than Hamodia. Downside is that its hard to wrap the fish in a virtual newspaper.

Not sure why your complaining about the price do you complain about the price of kosher food because you can just go to McDonald’s and buy meal for half of a kids sized chicken nuggets in a kosher store
As everybody else said if you don’t like it don’t buy it
