I’m not an avid bowler, but from what I remember, it is quite difficult to bowl bent over at the waist.

um, first of all most do squat and second of all just because most don’t certainly don’t make right by any means.- and don’t even get me started on that. usually bowling alleys are pretty full. if not, and they can get a lane in the corner, that’s another story. ps bending over is also a huge opportunity for her skirt to rise above her knees, even when very long

I know when I bowl I bend my shoulder a little there’s no need to bend over in an exaggerated way. You are a girl, I think get up and simulate it and you will see you only need to bend from above and your skirt shouldn’t move.

I admit my bowling form is far perfect, but in simulating MY bowling form I’m coming up with very little bending, except at the elbow. Could it be thats why I hardly ever break 75? 🙂

If you’ve ever watched the PBA (and I have LOL), they don’t bend in a non-tzanua way.

But really, how could any man bowl? Isn’t it 100% assur as its just bittul zman?

Exactly. Did anyone ever see R’ Moshe Feinstein bowl? Or R’ Yaacov? Or the Steipler. QED

i dont know why you wish to turn this into a him vs her question.

    but to asnwer you

recreation is permitted for a man and is not bitul zman, if it is done for the purpose of relaxation to improve learning which otherwise might be subject to “burnout

Maybe in your private bowling alley. But how can a man go out to a bowling alley where there might be improperly dressed women bending over? Sounds like unkosher entertainment to me.

If its not tznius for a woman to bowl, then it means than men shouldn’t be around women bowling right? Since bowling alleys don’t have seperate hours, it would seem like “relaxing” would be doing more harm than good.

Sjs, perhaps. But I would say pritzus is a lot worse than bittul zman, as you’re causing hundreds of others to sin with your sin.

ok, picture this: You decide to go bowling one day, but you know you can’t bowl if it’s full with men. ok, so lets go check out the situation at the alley (knowing full well you might just not get to bowl). you walk in and lucky enough there is an available lane far enough to be considered tznius. great. Now lets get started. you pick up the bowling ball and walk ever so daintly towards the lane (most run at that point btw) wait- no bending over too much so my skirt won’t ride up, and that I shouldn’t attract anyone and just drop the ball and expect it to get to the end of the lane. no cheering if you somehow get a strike, because the whole alley will turn their heads.

you didnt mention this before sj

all you said was bitul zman

True, but I can expand the question. How can men go to bowling alleys at all?

Let me get this straight. Its OK for guys to go bowling because they are entitled to recreation so that they can be refreshed and relaxed for more learning. Girls should not bowl, because it is not tznius. So, it is OK for the guys to recharge their batteries for more learning, around non tznius non jewish females but inappropriate if those females are jewish? I know I’m not as smart as many of the CR members and certainly not the moderators, but something isn’t adding up here. Can someone do the math, slowly, for people like me?

An NCSY activist one told me of a Shabbaton they had years ago that was scheduled to start with bowling (co-ed as are most NCSY events) at 6pm. He was horrified until he realized that it was in a part of Canada in the middle of summer when candlelighting was at 9:30pm.

I don’t know what things are like today as I haven’t bowled in years but there used to be women-only and men-only bowling leagues and competitions. Sen. Barbara Mikulski’s aunt, also named Mikulski, held one of the local records at a duckpin ally I used to bowl at in Baltimore.

Well according to you women shouldn’t be in the streets or anywhere else either where they can possibly

    1. Bend down

    2. Run (always see girls or women running for busses or stam rushing)

    3. Cheer or get excited (when they meet friends or whatever on the street or in noisy restaurants)

According to your standards women shouldn’t be allowed out during “mens hours.”

WIY, girls can walk in the streets and shmooze while they do, but no they shouldnt bend leaning forward, run in the street (most frum girls who do feel bad after. im sure you yourself realize how you turn to look and see who is running) and they most defintley shouldnt be loud in the streets. the points you mentioned are well known. look in any tznius book or ask any rebbetzin or rav. believe me, i went through bais yaakov and those issues have been addressed again and again

SJS. Silly me. I thought it had something to do with Acute Angles with all this talk of bending.

There was a thread at some point about going to an arcade and complaining that a girl was dancing on the DDR machine. How could she take her son out of the house if he was going to witness things like that?

So quarantine your son. Isn’t that easier than screening every place you go for a possible non-tzanua girl?
