I’m just surprised no arrests were made!

my DH was in BP late last night (into the wee hours of the morning) @ the Skulener Rebba, Shlita. I hate to think of what might have happened if he had come in contact with this MVA, cv’s.

Many interesting comments were made at the news section of YW.

Bochrim is the respecful term used for young, unmarried men. Doesn’t turn them into Tzaddikim. They are some foolish, selfish Bochrim who put themselves and others into major danger by acting very irresponsibly.

They obviously have problems in their life and are missing lots of Sechel. I too, don’t understand why they weren’t locked up.

I think they forgot to mention that part of the number of cars mentioned were parked cars.

Where does it say the word “yeshiva”?

Good point, but the word “bochurim” shouldn’t be used either. Although it has come to mean single young men, the root is “choice ones”, which implies yeshiva students, and some still associate the term with b’nei Torah.

The term “young men” would have been more neutral.

GumBall – Why does it bother you any less if they were not yeshiva bochrim?

Another example of the lawlessness that pervades Borough Park. I will be very disappointed if the same Coffee Room posters that applauded the criminals who defaced the H&M sign don’t show up in this thread soon.

    Arrest these bums!

I do not see the big deal. They committed a crime and must face the consequences or their actions. It does not matter whether they are yeshiva bochurim or eskimo hunters.

It’s a misdemeanor. As first time offenders they will get a fine and probation.

Daasyochid: The word ‘bochur’ may come from the root ‘choice ones’ but that has nothing to do with yeshiva at all. The word bochur appears many times in shas and meforshim and it simply is a reference to unmarried males.

That said I would agree that colloquially the word ‘bochur’ has become a reference to yeshiva bochurim. After all we don’t talk about ‘university bochurim’.

It’s a bigger chillul Hashem if they’re yeshiva bochurim.

I agree its a bigger chillul Hashem. But at the same time, must we lie about who commits it? Maybe you should start a campaign to not describe criminals or those who commit unlawful acts in the media. Its only going to say “Human did X…” or something like that.

Bochrim at risk? College bochrim? Older bochrim in the workforce? I’m just trying to get used to the new usage of the word Bochrim.
