Is it right to block the (narrow) street while waiting for someone who is about to pull out of a parking spot that you are waiting for?
Should I wait, blocking traffic behind me, when someone is attempting to parallel park?
March 16, 2012 5:26 pm at 5:26 pm #860980DerechMemberYou have a right to park. Traffic should wait as you are getting into or out of a parking spot.

March 16, 2012 6:30 pm at 6:30 pm #860982HaLeiViParticipantDo you want to wait until nightfall to park? Well, at that point yuou find a spot anymore.
It’s great to be a nice guy. I used to try. That was until I decided to let a guy pass before backing in, and he zoomed right in to the spot I held off going into, for his sake!
March 16, 2012 6:43 pm at 6:43 pm #860983nitpickerParticipantweeeeel, it depends.
if it is for a moment I might do it.
if it looks like it will be longer, that’s different.

March 16, 2012 7:00 pm at 7:00 pm #860986hershiMemberI was waiting for traffic to pass before backing in. It was taking so long that I was just reading the CR as I waited. Just as I started backing in, I saw your post. So now, as I am typing, everyone is honking at me since I am blocking the road.
March 18, 2012 4:05 am at 4:05 am #8609872scentsParticipantJust make sure that you don’t hold up the traffic for to long.
People have appointments and emergencies, blocking traffic for to long is selfish.
March 18, 2012 4:32 am at 4:32 am #860988farrocksMemberPeople are honking at you the second you start backing in, since they can’t pass.
March 18, 2012 8:47 pm at 8:47 pm #860989hershiMemberThat’s what makes me nervous.
March 19, 2012 12:42 am at 12:42 am #860990s2021MemberIts not ur problem ppl have no patience to wait. If u can wait 2 minutes its nice. If u will never get a chance to get in cuz there will always b cars, then please park without guilt! Honking is rude and it doesnt mean ur a *beep* it just means they dont have very good middos.

Absolutely true.
Now if someone has to pass because someone is laboring in the back seat, thats different. Thats usually not the case. Although you wouldnt know by the chorus of beeping in BP- thats how it got its name- BP.
March 19, 2012 5:36 pm at 5:36 pm #860992BTGuyParticipantIt depends on how hard it is to find a spot.
I could not find a spot once at the Franklin Institute parking garage, and it was bumper to bumper in there, at a snails crawl, one lane going one way.
After what seemed like hours (maybe 25 mins in real life), we were all honking our horns at other cars who stopped to wait for a spot, once I saw a family getting into their van, of course, taking their sweet time getting all squared away, I stopped and waited for that spot. Others honked away, but too bad, I was getting that spot.
I guess it’s a situational situation.
