Hi, did anyone hear of this ‘rule’ where the brothers of the chosson and kallah have to buy and wear black suits to the wedding of their sibling? It sounds so ridiculous.
October 10, 2019 1:55 pm at 1:55 pm #1792238👑RebYidd23ParticipantWhy? Does everyone else wear pink?
October 10, 2019 1:56 pm at 1:56 pm #1792237lowerourtuition11210ParticipantI have made numerous chasunahs B”H and have not heard of this. We generally have the chosson/kallah come with us to help choose the siblings suits mostly “blue” or dark gray but not black (unless a black suit was just flattering to the siblings body type).
October 10, 2019 4:26 pm at 4:26 pm #1792250JosephParticipantWhy on earth would the chosson or kallah give a hoot what color suits their brothers are wearing (assuming they are Shabbosdik)?!
October 10, 2019 11:37 pm at 11:37 pm #1792291klugeryidParticipantI’m my community the rule is
All males over 11, black suits, 5 buttons, two pleats in pants, single split in jacket, no hems on pants, no pocket on shirt, monochrome tie, tie shoes only, black of course, black socks, no eyeglasses,
If you have one infraction, you can’t eat any hot meat dish at the shmorg.
Two infractions your banned from the Viennaise table.
Three infractions, no main dish, any more and you get sent home.
It’s difficult being religious, but you gotta follow the minhagumOctober 10, 2019 11:41 pm at 11:41 pm #1792298GadolhadorahParticipantI’ve seen this trend too, although not too frequently. Its really a spillover from the routine goyishe minhag of having the “groomsmen’ and “bridesmaids” in the wedding party wear matching suits and dresses with colors not to distract from the bride/groom. For most frum/heimeshe weddings the choson will be wearing a dark suit anyway so a dark grey/navy/black suit would be indistinguishable. Requiring an exactly matching black suit to the choson’s suit is not the yiddeshe way.

October 11, 2019 12:50 pm at 12:50 pm #1792585GadolhadorahParticipantMamelleah: False alarm…..it turned out to be a NYC fireman dressed in a white hazmat suit running towards the fire this morning at the lubavitch headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway. See breaking news story in the main YWN news links.
October 11, 2019 12:54 pm at 12:54 pm #1792569from Long IslandParticipantWhen we made weddings, we never told the family men what color to wear.
BUT, in the photos, it does look better if all the suits are the same color. If you are a Yeshivish family, well then, they are all in black, if not, the men wear what they own.
If they are all buying new suits, and they ask you, then you can give your opinion, BUT, never ask people to spend their own money to please the families of the Simcha. Now, if you offer to treat everybody, then that is a different story.

(unless it only works for consecutive identical posts, but I don’t think so).October 19, 2019 8:51 pm at 8:51 pm #1793702hujuParticipantRe Joseph’s approval of Gadolhadorah’s comment: I guess the heavy winds of the last few days are from Godolhadorah’s breathing a huge sigh of relief that Joseph approves.
October 20, 2019 2:31 am at 2:31 am #1793710GadolhadorahParticipantHuju: Inhale….hold-your breadth….exhale….repeat. I suspect your are simply jealous that an adam chashuv such as Reb Yosef chose to comment favorably on my post.
