Walmart and Target have already made their Black Friday deal info available.
There are several sited devoted to Black Friday 2011 deals and specials.
Laptop PCs is one category that seems to be much lower this year than it has been in the past – you can get a very decent computer for less money than ever before.
Instead of posting specific links here, I’ll just suggest Googling “Black Friday”, “Black Friday 2011” and so on to search for deals on all types of items that will be upcoming over the next week or so.
Obviously, if you want to request help, opinions or info on a specific item, or you just want to publicize metzios that you spotted, please do so (within this site’s guidelines, of course).
$pend, $pend, $pend!

Before looking for a laptop, you need to know how you intend to use it and what you will be using it for.
Here are things to consider:
-Do you intend to carry it around a lot (school, work, etc.) or basically keep it in one place?
-What is your preferred screen size (10-11 inch [netbook], 12-13 inch [smaller laptop], 14-15.5 inch [common laptop size] 17+ inch [large laptop / desktop replacement])
-What will its use be? Internet browsing and word processing? Movie and picture editing? Working with large spreadsheets? Game playing?
-What level of support will you need? Frequent calls to technical assistance? Solve everything yourself?
-Will you be OK with free antivirus, Open Office, etc. or will you want commercial products like McAfee and Microsoft Office?
-Will you be watching DVDs and listening to music often?
If you get a PC that’s a lot more powerful than you need, that’s a waste of money. It’s best to determine what you need / want it for and take it from there.

November 21, 2011 4:53 am at 4:53 am #830729commonsenseParticipantYW-Band toys r us has 1 for $130 with a $30 gift card. also there is a $10 gift card with $75 purchase that might apply as well. this is not on black friday, it is now until Wed.
Zahavasdad, Black friday is traditionally the day to start shopping for the big gift holiday which is why black friday is not exactly a jewish concept. While i see no problem with us taking advantage of the great sales, I don’t think it’s so appropriate for jewish stores to call their sales black friday sales.

November 21, 2011 12:47 pm at 12:47 pm #830731zahavasdadParticipantThe reason its called “Black friday” because in Accounting Terms losing money is called being in the “red” and making money is called being in the “black”
Most retail stores lose money most of the year and make money the day after Thanksgiving.
If “Black Friday” was such an unjewish idea why does B & H Photo (Largest Charedi owned store) have black friday specials and if shopping is December is non-jewish, Why does Eichlers have Chanuka Specials.
November 21, 2011 12:56 pm at 12:56 pm #830732dunnoMemberI can only try:
I thought about some of those things but I still don’t know what to get. My laptop pretty much stays at home. I’d prefer a 15.6″ one but can go a little smaller or bigger. I use it mainly to surf the web and put on pictures although I do occasionally watch DVDs on it. Virus protection isn’t much of an issue since I think I have another use from the one I already have. I don’t need customer support. The only catch is that I’m going to be out of town so I would have to be able to get it online.
November 21, 2011 6:07 pm at 6:07 pm #830733I can only tryMemberdunno-
Walmart, Target, OfficeMax, Best Buy, Amazon and other stores have already posted several of their specials online.
I suggest the following:
November 21, 2011 6:51 pm at 6:51 pm #830734commonsenseParticipantdunno, staples has a decent computer for $350 now until Wed. they are also running a special of 15% off everything you can fit into a bag they give you. if they let you combine the two you can get the computer for about $300 now before black friday.
November 21, 2011 6:54 pm at 6:54 pm #830735commonsenseParticipantzahavasdad, i know why the day is termed black friday and do not consider shopping a non jewish activity. the reason the stores go into the black on that specific day every year is because that is traditionally the day to start holiday shopping. most stores have the holiday music and decorations and sometimes workers in costume during the black friday shopping.
November 21, 2011 7:11 pm at 7:11 pm #830736bezalelParticipantI wanna get a new 8gb ipod?
Apple generally doesn’t allow their resellers to offer their products cheaper but resellers are allowed to and sometimes bundle free iTunes credits (or other accesories) with iPods. On Black Friday the Apple stores usually discount their products by about 10%.

You are supposed to read the fine print.
November 21, 2011 7:30 pm at 7:30 pm #830738aries2756ParticipantI think its called “Black” friday because people stay up all night in line waiting for the stores to open early to get the best deal. Black meaning dark, night time.

The specs are very solid, and $350 is at least $50 cheaper than any other site at which I can find it and $100 – $200 cheaper than most sites.
The user reviews at several sites (amazon, staples, newegg) are overall positive with most buyers being very happy with it.

November 21, 2011 11:02 pm at 11:02 pm #830743squeakParticipantAries, funny 🙂
I think the accounting terms are racist. Just because Native Americans run gambling parlors and sell bankrupting products like tobacco, we have a right to call it “in the red”? That’s a racial slur!
Just because the NFL does it, does not mean we should all use this pejorative.

Several reputable retailers have already posted specials.

“He who hesitates is lost”
“A bird in hand is worth two in the bush”

I saw that laptop…it would be perfect but I’m very wary of getting AMD processor instead of Intel. You seem to know something about computers…you think AMD is as good?
I also saw a Gateway one from Best Buy that has an i3 processor. They don’t link it, nor do they show the price but maybe that’s also good.
November 22, 2011 12:16 am at 12:16 am #830746moishyParticipantCan s/o please help me?? I want to know if there are any Black Friday sales on ea sports games for PC ??
November 22, 2011 12:44 am at 12:44 am #830747I can only tryMemberdunno-
AMD doesn’t scare me – I’ve purchased both desktop and laptop computers with AMD CPUs and I haven’t had problems with either.
AMD usually is cheaper than Intel, and in this case the Intel i3 CPU is probably a bit better. It’s tough to do a straight comparison, since they use a completely different architecture, and Intel is better at some things, while AMD is better at others.
My “green lighting” of this model was heavily influenced by the number of positive reviews from people who bought it.
For your requirements, either the A4-3300M CPU or Intel’s i3 would more than suffice.
If you’re not comfortable with this PC’s specs and/or want to look around further, by all means do so – at this time of year there are sure to be other good buys to be had.
November 22, 2011 3:03 am at 3:03 am #830748dunnoMemberI’ll look around a little more but if I don’t find anything better I’ll probably get this one. Thanks a lot for all your help.

It seems there aren’t too many EA game fans here – sorry.
Why don’t you Google “Black Friday EA sports games PC”? I tried it and several hits came up, including Best Buy.

OK, hatzlocha raba.
Don’t forget that thanks go to poster “commonsense” for initially suggesting this model.

Here’s another possibility:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400257624065+
It’s got similar specs to the Staples PC.
It’s $299
It has an Intel B940 CPU, which is similar to the i3, but a slightly lower grade.
This one also is a lower-end PC, but it should be fine for your requirements.
Newegg.com sold it. They no longer offer it, but there are 37 reviews on their site, and they are overwhelmingly very positive.
November 23, 2011 12:06 am at 12:06 am #830751moishyParticipantICOT- Thanx. Would you be able to maybe post some of the things that came up, as I don’t have access to Google where I am right now?? Thanx again.

Here are a couple of links that come up for Black Friday on EA sites:
http://www.ea.com/news/black-friday-is-coming-get-up-to-60-off-over-200-games
I can’t post all links that come up on a search because I’m not familiar with several of the sites, don’t know which games are good and current, and I don’t want to go thru and verify page after page of links.
I recommend you find a PC that can access Google, or get your parents’ permission to do so (if that’s the issue), and check the various links and sites for yourself.

If you still have some change floating around among the lint at the bottom of your pocket, these places will gladly vacuum it up (the change, not the lint).
