It’s a new seminary opening up next year led by Mrs. Hindy Ullman. Anyone know anything about it?
December 15, 2010 1:14 am at 1:14 am #902453candy613MemberMrs. Ullman actually spoke to my grade in school and told us about it. She seems like such an amazing person we were all in awe!!!! she told us she wasnt there to sell her seminary, but it is what it is and if anyone is interested then ok… she made it sound like bjj with a lot more hashkafa and geared towards a girl who is very smart works hard and gets good grades but wants to grow and learn more about life. She explained how she is very into her machshava classes like cholvos halvavos and brings out a lot of hashkafa through music and that type of stuff. Even though they have a lot of classes for lessons about life lessons and hashkafa they have a great curriculum for the other subjects like chumash and navi as well. she even has this huge assigment planned that you pick a topic and bring it out from a lot of different naviim and kesuvim basikly writing your own sefer! point is it’s very accademic!!!! its the type of sem that girls applying to bjj and mesoras rochel apply to and she said that straight out that it gonna be up there like bjj… hope this helps if you have any other questions feel free to post!!! it sounds like such an amazing seminary i cant even tell you!!!

June 15, 2011 12:48 pm at 12:48 pm #902458☕ DaasYochid ☕Participantshe told us she wasnt there to sell her seminary
True; she was there to recruit. Which students have enough money to buy a seminary anyway?
June 15, 2011 8:08 pm at 8:08 pm #902459moishyParticipantgefen, is candy613 by any chance your daughter? 😉
June 15, 2011 11:37 pm at 11:37 pm #902460gefenParticipantmoishy – nope she’s not – but she is my daughter’s friend

anyway, she may be living in monsey now, but she might have originally come from williamsburgh as i heard.
so i’m still wondering if anyone knows her maiden name.
July 6, 2011 8:40 pm at 8:40 pm #902464yolkMemberthat candy613 is your friend’s daughter?
July 7, 2011 2:32 am at 2:32 am #902465gefenParticipantyolk – oh – that. first of all she’s my daughter’s friend not friend’s daughter – though i am friendly with the mother also.
but anyway – one of their other friends told me and i can tell by some of the things she has written.
July 17, 2011 5:51 am at 5:51 am #902466inspiredteenMemberShe is living in Bietar now….I’ll see if I can find out her maiden name.
If anyone has any questions about it, I might be able to answer them – Mrs. Ullman taught me as well as many of the teachers who will be teaching the school. I think it will be an amazing place and I wish I could go (except I’m too old :()

May 22, 2012 5:59 pm at 5:59 pm #902472MammeleParticipantAre you sure this isn’t the Fried family that used to live on Rutledge St. In williamsburg and moved to BP when their apt. Burned down some years back?
May 31, 2012 2:44 pm at 2:44 pm #902473gefenParticipantMammele – I haven’t even checked this thread since the last time I posted, which as you can see was 10 months ago. But even if I had, I don’t think I would have realized that your post was meant for me since I mentioned nothing about a Fried family. I just asked if anyone knew her maiden name. HELLOWORLD is the one who mentioned the name Fried and said she’s from bp.
So anyway, I guess I don’t know who Mrs. Ullman is as I do not recall a Fried family.
May 31, 2012 4:06 pm at 4:06 pm #902474MammeleParticipantSorry about that. I was originally hoping helloworld would recheck her info. and post the result as I wasn’t 100% sure. But since she didn’t and you were the one interested in the williamsburg aspect, I thought maybe it’ll ring a bell to you
In any case, if it helps she had an older sister that taught in satmar high-school, and if you lived in williamsburg as opposed to just went to school there (idk from your post) it is very unlikely that you don’t know the family, as they were very well known, but I don’t want to give too many details here.
November 4, 2012 10:38 pm at 10:38 pm #902475ezragirlMemberDoes your father have to be in learning to get into binas?
November 5, 2012 1:49 am at 1:49 am #902476mischiefmakerMemberIt doesn’t seem like a BJJ type now but anyone know more info? how academic it is? is it hard to get in? does it have a decent reputation or is it a seminary for girls who don’t get accepted anywhere else? thanks
November 5, 2012 4:30 am at 4:30 am #902477OneOfManyParticipantMrs. Ullman was actually a teacher at my seminary (Machon Raaya) and told us a lot about Binas, which she started the year after she taught us. candy613 pretty much got it down pat. I don’t know how much I would liken it to BJJ, though – Mrs. Ullman described it as a lot like Machon Raaya, with an added hashkafic dynamic. Small and more “in-the-box”/in-town than MR (but a lot less so than BJJ). The assignment candy613 described is actually modeled on Machon Raaya’s coursework, according to Mrs. Ullman.
As to their criteria for acceptance, I don’t think you have to fit the big-institution profile (father learning, blah blah blah) – like MR, she’s looking for a niche group that fits her hashkafic and itellectual ideas. So I’m guessing she’s at least a little selective, but not like BJJ and the like are (For instance: I got accepted into Machon Raaya very easily because my personality and work ethic fit their image for their student body, not because my father learns/works/wears white shirts/wears colored shirts/is well-off/etc).
