Do you get any of these? Do you get it delivered to your door or do you pick it up from the store?
March 3, 2011 7:15 pm at 7:15 pm #746761HaLeiViParticipantNone. For news, I check out this site and get updates from Arutz Sheva. For any other topic, either a book from the library or Google. I never found a newspaper article to be actually enlightening. They are usually distilled into a small powdered version of the editor’s remains from the writer’s depiction of what he/she gleened from a few sources.
By the way, most often it isn’t even necessary to read past the headline. The headline would read, “Plane crashes, everyone survives”. That piques your interest, and you read on, only to find: Yesterday, at ..:…, in northern …., a small Cessna carrying … people crashed in a wooded area near …. and all four survived. They are in … condition. Ahmed Muhmadda, who was at the seen, said, “Wow!”
March 3, 2011 7:59 pm at 7:59 pm #746762stickynoteMemberI get them all. Binah, Hamodia get it delivered. The rest like Yated and Mishpacha I pick it up in the store.(read on shabbos so therefore cant google)

March 4, 2011 3:49 am at 3:49 am #746771ImaofthreeParticipantYated, Mishpacha, Bina, delivered. I buy the ami magazine, also zeman. love them all.
March 4, 2011 4:16 am at 4:16 am #746772jakywebMemberI only buy Jewish Press because they are not scared to show pictures of women. I am curious as to how parents explain to their little girls as to why their favorite magazines don’t show pictures of women. When did the face of a frum woman become assur? Is the frum community never going to see pictures of Sarah Schnerer or heilige Rebbitzens of our past. Then don’t wonder why eating disorders and cutting are becoming more prevelant in our community when young girls are taught that ladies should not be seen. This possible leads to feelings of self loathing.

Of the female variety? Perhaps a Rebbitzen? Where is your picture?

When did the face of a frum woman become assur?
Its not assur. No one ever claimed it was. Oh, you looking at it, or staring in order to derive pleasure? Well, deriving pleasure from looking at a woman, even her pinky, is assur.
Is the frum community never going to see pictures of Sarah Schnerer or heilige Rebbitzens of our past.
Sure. In school, and school notes.
Then don’t wonder why eating disorders and cutting are becoming more prevelant in our community when young girls are taught that ladies should not be seen. This possible leads to feelings of self loathing.
Huh, huh, huh???
March 4, 2011 4:49 am at 4:49 am #746775shlishiMemberthe jewish press is very liberal. i only read a Torah paper like hamodia.
March 4, 2011 5:09 am at 5:09 am #746776ImaofthreeParticipantWhen I was a child, I used to read the Jewish Press. I especially loved the tales of the gaonim, stories about tzaddikim. I alway say the Jewish Press helped me become frum…
March 4, 2011 5:10 am at 5:10 am #746777ImaofthreeParticipantIf Hillary Clintin would have become president then we would have no pics of our president in the frum papers.

If Hillary Clintin would have become president you would know how to spell her name. C-L-I-N-T-O-N.
March 4, 2011 5:50 am at 5:50 am #746779ballerinabelleParticipantI Love Binah Magazine. We get Binah and Mishpacha every week.
I find Mishpacha too be way too foreign, since it is an Israeli publication.I find the articles not at ALL geared towards the american mom. The good articles/stories come every now and then. It is a shame because they used to be quite a nice magazine. They need to step up their game. They have yet to re-win my approval. But Binah on the other hand, never ceases to WOW me every week with their super interesting articles and brilliant stories, gorgeous graphics and heartfelt words of inspiration. Way to go, Binah!!

March 4, 2011 5:10 pm at 5:10 pm #746783jakywebMemberGuess what I am not in school and if I read an article about a frum woman I want to see a picture of her and brisker I won’t stop until women can read a magazine catered to frum women that shows women.
March 4, 2011 6:14 pm at 6:14 pm #746784real-briskerMemberJW – So if you think there is such a demand for it, go ahead and publish your own magazine!
March 4, 2011 6:38 pm at 6:38 pm #746785Mayan_DvashParticipantDon’t get any of those myself, but if I happen to be in a house that has Hamodia, I make sure that among the articles I read, is Mordechai Schmutter’s column. I like his style of humor

March 6, 2011 3:58 am at 3:58 am #746786ShrekParticipantMishpacha is the most daring of the chareidi publications, in my opinion. They are willing to write about sensitive topics even though they get flak for it sometimes from their readership.
