Yes – being perceptive is a wonderful thing (as another thread says) but i also think being BRIEF is wonderful. Most of the time when I see loooooooooooooooooong posts, i skip them (sometimes,if i have time and patience and it’s a topic i’m really interested in, then i will read them). Sorry – don’t mean to offend anyone, besides i’m sure i’m guilty of long posts too. So my new plan is, if i have a lot to say, i’ll just write a lot of short posts.
November 2, 2011 2:18 pm at 2:18 pm #823493ZeesKiteParticipantI second that. I’m not good in reading English.
November 2, 2011 2:22 pm at 2:22 pm #823494BTGuyParticipantYou make a good case for being brief. You are not in the briefcase business, are you?? I can use a new one.
November 2, 2011 2:24 pm at 2:24 pm #823495popa_bar_abbaParticipantYou can help by paragraphing often. I won’t read a paragraph if it has more than like 8 lines.

November 2, 2011 2:29 pm at 2:29 pm #823497cantoresqMemberTo be brief is nice. I prefer to be boxer however.
November 2, 2011 2:31 pm at 2:31 pm #823498HaLeiViParticipantVery true. A point is often brought out better when it is concise and to the point. A language-to-language dictionary has one word where an English-to-English dictionary would need a sentence, and it is a better explanation of the word’s usage.
However, this cannot always be done. For example, my fly-hurting thread has a huge OP, but I couldn’t brake it up. What you can do, is to break it into paragraphs.
November 2, 2011 2:42 pm at 2:42 pm #8234992scentsParticipantthats correct,
in fact i have learned that people will read your emails and messages if you keep them short to the point and separate the sentences.
November 2, 2011 4:00 pm at 4:00 pm #823500gefenParticipantZeeskite: what language do you speak or are you just joking? From the way you write in general, i take it you are just joking.
BTguy – sorry no briefcases
Charlie – I see you really get my point 😉
November 2, 2011 4:11 pm at 4:11 pm #823501ZeesKiteParticipantgefen: Really?!? (btw, what difference does it make what language I speak?)
November 2, 2011 4:33 pm at 4:33 pm #823502MiddlePathParticipantgefen, I completely understand, and I’m sorry if some of my posts are too long. I did try to condense the Perceptive one (It originally was an 8 page essay), but it probably could have been shortened even more. Thanks for telling me. I’ll be more careful in the future to have shorter posts.
November 2, 2011 4:57 pm at 4:57 pm #823503gefenParticipantZeeskite: no difference – i was just curious – didn’t mean to get too personal.
Middlepath: my comment wasn’t directed specifically at you. sorry if you thought so. as i said, i’m also guilty of long posts at times.
November 2, 2011 7:34 pm at 7:34 pm #823504MiddlePathParticipantgefen, I appreciate that, but I understand I did recently have some long posts, so I would like to view your post as pertaining to me so I can work on it, even if it wasn’t directed specifically at me.
November 2, 2011 7:49 pm at 7:49 pm #823505ZeesKiteParticipantgefen
I don’t mind anyone getting personal. I wish I knew myself.
Anyways, you got me wrong. I just meant that speaking and writing are two different things…
November 2, 2011 7:55 pm at 7:55 pm #823506🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantMiddle Path – I hope you will take that as a compliment but I have been wanting to read that post and can’t find the time at work. Paragraphs would have helped. But I will NOT give up, and I have no doubt that it will have been worth it in the end!
November 2, 2011 8:44 pm at 8:44 pm #823507adorableParticipantI cant stand those. the only posts I read that are more than 2 lines long are the ones that everyone talks about after. lol then I go back and read it!!!
November 2, 2011 9:07 pm at 9:07 pm #823508charlie brownMemberadorable, you should have left out the “lol”. Then your post would have fit onto 2 lines. 🙂
November 2, 2011 9:11 pm at 9:11 pm #823509adorableParticipantLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
November 2, 2011 10:07 pm at 10:07 pm #823510Queen BeeMemberIn MP’s defense (not that anyone is attacking him) he did give a warning that his post was long. I think in general, it’s okay for a post to be long, but as long as it’s interesting and engaging, it won’t feel like it’s really long.
November 3, 2011 12:14 am at 12:14 am #823511gefenParticipantZeeskite – I always say that i don’t speak or write any language fluently – not even english!
November 3, 2011 1:34 am at 1:34 am #823512TheGoqParticipantMP’s essays may be lengthy but always a good and thought provoking read keep em coming!
November 3, 2011 1:40 am at 1:40 am #823513MiddlePathParticipantThanks so much, Goq. I will G-d willing. But I will try to make them more reader-friendly.
Thanks QB, but as you said, no one was really attacking me. Gefen was simply making a general suggestion (which I agree with), and I was just implementing it for myself.
Syag, your’e right, I should have split it into more paragraphs! But hope you can read it at some point, whenever you have the chance.
November 3, 2011 3:01 pm at 3:01 pm #823514BTGuyParticipantWhat? Everyone here already clean the lint out of their belly button?
November 3, 2011 9:52 pm at 9:52 pm #823515taking a breakMemberBT whats that got to do.
s/ts i post long but thats just cuz i have a hard time saying things in condensed form. but personally i try to read longs ones more than short ones cuz those are more interesting IMHO
November 3, 2011 9:56 pm at 9:56 pm #823516ToiParticipantas opposed to being boxer?
