Just saw this news item. Netanyahu’s son just won the “chidon HaTanach” in Jerusalem. (link: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/Flash.aspx/179837). It is nice to see how even non-religious zionists value Torah and Jewish culture.

1; he won the district, not the main event (that’s held on Yom Ha’atzmaut). It’s like getting into the semifinals…..not yet winning the world series.
2; there are different tracks for religious and non-religious students. For example, non-religious may be asked to distinguish between the three Isaiah’s and their time periods (non of which is pre-churban bayis rishon) – not a question you would ask a religious student!
But – a yiddishe kup bleibt a yiddishe kup!

I think it used to be applied to black ballplayers all the time, as in, “Willie Mays, he’s a natural.” It dismisses the fact that the player practiced hard, studied hard, and worked hard.
We are not only are genotype. One may be a natural, but you still have to work hard to be the best.
Kol Hakavod to the boy.

The general opinion here is that he is irreligious. Yet the Jerusalem Post interviewed someone who says that he is religious. I find it fascinating that people so flippantly say someone is irreligious. Do you know the person? I don’t know if he is or is not. But don’t jump to conclusions. You may not know the whole story.

Just the fact that a boy grows up in a secular environment in Israel and seeks out and puts efforts into this part of himself is impressive, regardless of whether or not he is not-yet-frum. He does have a sister who is frum. They’re Jewish – they have zchus Avos.
I’m truly happy for Mr. and Mrs. Netanyahu, may they, and all of klal Yisroel see Yiddishe Nachas from all of our children.
