Not for me, I was there and I didnt see any frum Jews and it was insanely hot

Austin isnt cheap anymore, Its considered the #1 place to move to in the US so housing prices there are soaring

RebYidd23, basically all the jews in austin are Dellinaire, to give an example the previous orthodox rabbi in austin was paid $100,000 a yr till he left town, could you name any other jewish community that pays their rabbi that much.

Malbim, why do you think the point of the CR is to promote Austin? And why is paying a rabbi a lot a good thing for non-rabbis like me?

Austin is not mentioned in the Torah. That’s why you should live in Israel.

According to Mikvah Finder, the only Mikvah in Austin requires a 48 hour advance notice to use it

“millions a pond millions of dollars”

The phrase is “millions UPON millions of dollars.” I hope that your English and grammar are not indicative of the school system in Austin.

I’m married. Typically women know at least 48 hours in advance when they will be going to the mikvah. In small communities, mikvahs are always by appointment only.

I live in a community in NYC with hundreds of frum families. The main mikvah is in a nearby area. You wouldn’t want to walk there at night, so we have a neighborhood mikvah for use on Friday night only. Appointments are supposed to be made by Wednesday night. I’m sure that if for some reason a woman can’t make an appointment that far in advance, she will be accommodated.

Malbim, here are some serious questions about Austin:

You say it is “fast growing”. How many frum families were in the community a year ago, and how many are there now?

What kind of Jewish schools are there in Austin?

You wrote that you’re looking for a Rav. How long has the community been without one? Having difficulty attracting a Rav isn’t making it look more attractive.

On the website for an Orthodox shul in Austin, Congregation Tiferet Israel, it mentions that the Rabbi is Rabbi Daniel Millner. A quick Google search shows that he is a YCT graduate. Would you say the community is YCT style?

What is the real estate market like there? If I wanted a 4 BR, 2.5 bath home, how much would it cost? What are the real estate taxes like?

    Thanks in advance!

If everyone moves to Austin, that’s another reason for me not to want to live there. Too crowded.

But Malbim, I don’t want to live where other people live, so if it’s “fast-growing” like you say it is, I’ll just stay where I am or move to a desert island.

So? There’s no mitzvah to live there, so it doesn’t really matter how frum the community is.

Malbim: no, I’m happy where I live now. If one day I decide to move to Texas, it will probably be Houston. I have some extended family there, and when I asked someone about it, they actually gave me real answers instead of just telling me to come check it out myself.

Your refusal to answer questions makes it seem like you have something to hide.

I don’t know about you, but if I were trying to push living in Austin, Tx, I don’t think I’d put NYC as my location in my CR profile.
