Austin,Tx has a fast growing frum community. Is there anybody on YWN interested in living in Austin,Tx?
August 15, 2014 1:39 am at 1:39 am #1028993zahavasdadParticipantNot for me, I was there and I didnt see any frum Jews and it was insanely hot
Austin isnt cheap anymore, Its considered the #1 place to move to in the US so housing prices there are soaring
August 15, 2014 2:54 am at 2:54 am #1028994👑RebYidd23ParticipantNo ocean, so there’s no point in living there.
August 15, 2014 4:09 am at 4:09 am #1028995MalbimMemberZahavasdad, were you in the north hills area, that’s where all the jews live it is heavily jewish if you visit again check it out
August 15, 2014 4:15 am at 4:15 am #1028996MalbimMemberRebYidd23, basically all the jews in austin are Dellinaire, to give an example the previous orthodox rabbi in austin was paid $100,000 a yr till he left town, could you name any other jewish community that pays their rabbi that much.
August 15, 2014 5:20 pm at 5:20 pm #1028997MalbimMemberAustin,Tx is the best OOT community.
August 15, 2014 5:58 pm at 5:58 pm #1028998DaMosheParticipantWow, you should start a thread about it!
August 15, 2014 6:39 pm at 6:39 pm #1028999MalbimMemberDaMoshe, very funny.
August 15, 2014 8:57 pm at 8:57 pm #1029000👑RebYidd23ParticipantMalbim, why do you think the point of the CR is to promote Austin? And why is paying a rabbi a lot a good thing for non-rabbis like me?
August 15, 2014 10:32 pm at 10:32 pm #1029001MalbimMemberRebYidd23, cause it is a blog that’s why. To get you to want to live there.
August 17, 2014 3:10 am at 3:10 am #1029002To be or not to beMemberDoesn’t Mr. dell, the computer guy live there?
August 17, 2014 3:17 am at 3:17 am #1029003MalbimMemberTo be or not to be, yes he does also he is jewish he assists the jewish community a lot like giving them millions a pond millions of dollars among other stuff, that’s why you should live in Austin,Tx.
August 17, 2014 3:44 am at 3:44 am #1029004To be or not to beMemberis the only shul there the JCC? I am not going to live there as I have a nice house and community right where I am now, and if I am moving anywhere it is eretz yisroel
August 17, 2014 4:05 am at 4:05 am #1029005MalbimMemberNo, he gives all the shuls in the city rent free space in the JCC.
August 17, 2014 4:19 am at 4:19 am #1029006👑RebYidd23ParticipantBut I’m not a rabbi! And this is not a blog!
August 17, 2014 4:23 am at 4:23 am #1029007MalbimMemberRebYidd23, just live in Austin,Tx.
August 17, 2014 4:44 am at 4:44 am #1029008👑RebYidd23ParticipantBut I don’t want to. And you can’t make me.
Also, you don’t like me, so if you do live there, aren’t you glad I don’t?
August 17, 2014 4:47 am at 4:47 am #1029009MalbimMemberRebYidd23, I want you to live there, at least visit Austin,Tx
August 17, 2014 5:24 am at 5:24 am #1029010yeshivaguy45ParticipantMalbim, I think you should look for another city. Maybe, somewhere in montana or wyoming. 🙂
August 17, 2014 9:16 am at 9:16 am #1029011MalbimMemberyeshivaguy45, check out Austin,Tx it will change you.
August 17, 2014 12:45 pm at 12:45 pm #1029012takahmamashParticipantTo be or not to be, yes he does also he is jewish he assists the jewish community a lot like giving them millions a pond millions of dollars among other stuff, that’s why you should live in Austin,Tx.
Austin is not mentioned in the Torah. That’s why you should live in Israel.
August 17, 2014 12:51 pm at 12:51 pm #1029013zahavasdadParticipantAccording to Mikvah Finder, the only Mikvah in Austin requires a 48 hour advance notice to use it
August 17, 2014 5:24 pm at 5:24 pm #1029014yehudayonaParticipantZD: That’s a problem?
August 17, 2014 5:54 pm at 5:54 pm #1029015To be or not to beMemberlet me put this delicately. Are you married, Yehudayona?
August 17, 2014 6:03 pm at 6:03 pm #1029016The FrumguyParticipant“millions a pond millions of dollars”
The phrase is “millions UPON millions of dollars.” I hope that your English and grammar are not indicative of the school system in Austin.
August 17, 2014 6:51 pm at 6:51 pm #1029017yehudayonaParticipantI’m married. Typically women know at least 48 hours in advance when they will be going to the mikvah. In small communities, mikvahs are always by appointment only.
I live in a community in NYC with hundreds of frum families. The main mikvah is in a nearby area. You wouldn’t want to walk there at night, so we have a neighborhood mikvah for use on Friday night only. Appointments are supposed to be made by Wednesday night. I’m sure that if for some reason a woman can’t make an appointment that far in advance, she will be accommodated.
August 17, 2014 7:00 pm at 7:00 pm #1029018MalbimMembertakahmamash,zahavasdad,yehudayona,To be or not to be,The FrumGuy, don’t judge Austin,Tx just check it out.

The mountain borders dividing the portions of Ephraim and Manashe are practically in my back yard. Tell me why I need to check out Austin.
August 17, 2014 7:58 pm at 7:58 pm #1029020MalbimMembertakahmamash, cause it has a great frum community.
August 17, 2014 9:24 pm at 9:24 pm #1029021DaMosheParticipantMalbim, here are some serious questions about Austin:
You say it is “fast growing”. How many frum families were in the community a year ago, and how many are there now?
What kind of Jewish schools are there in Austin?
You wrote that you’re looking for a Rav. How long has the community been without one? Having difficulty attracting a Rav isn’t making it look more attractive.
On the website for an Orthodox shul in Austin, Congregation Tiferet Israel, it mentions that the Rabbi is Rabbi Daniel Millner. A quick Google search shows that he is a YCT graduate. Would you say the community is YCT style?
What is the real estate market like there? If I wanted a 4 BR, 2.5 bath home, how much would it cost? What are the real estate taxes like?
Thanks in advance!
August 17, 2014 10:23 pm at 10:23 pm #1029022👑RebYidd23ParticipantIf everyone moves to Austin, that’s another reason for me not to want to live there. Too crowded.
August 18, 2014 2:24 am at 2:24 am #1029023MalbimMemberRebYidd23, just check out Austin,Tx.
August 18, 2014 2:31 am at 2:31 am #1029024DaMosheParticipantMalbim, are you going to answer my questions?
August 18, 2014 2:36 am at 2:36 am #1029025MalbimMemberDaMoshe, check out Austin,Tx and see for urself.
August 18, 2014 2:52 am at 2:52 am #1029026👑RebYidd23ParticipantBut Malbim, I don’t want to live where other people live, so if it’s “fast-growing” like you say it is, I’ll just stay where I am or move to a desert island.
August 18, 2014 3:13 am at 3:13 am #1029027MalbimMemberRebYidd23, just see Austin,Tx before u judge it that’s all.
August 18, 2014 7:30 am at 7:30 am #1029028takahmamashParticipanttakahmamash, cause it has a great frum community.
So? There’s no mitzvah to live there, so it doesn’t really matter how frum the community is.
August 18, 2014 12:47 pm at 12:47 pm #1029029DaMosheParticipantMalbim: no, I’m happy where I live now. If one day I decide to move to Texas, it will probably be Houston. I have some extended family there, and when I asked someone about it, they actually gave me real answers instead of just telling me to come check it out myself.
Your refusal to answer questions makes it seem like you have something to hide.
August 18, 2014 2:27 pm at 2:27 pm #1029030ED IT ORParticipantI met someone from the UK who is a Rabbi there!
August 18, 2014 3:03 pm at 3:03 pm #1029031Sam2ParticipantDaMoshe: He’s not actually from Austin. It’s quite obvious, really.
August 18, 2014 4:02 pm at 4:02 pm #1029034☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYou really think so, Sam?
I don’t know about you, but if I were trying to push living in Austin, Tx, I don’t think I’d put NYC as my location in my CR profile.
August 18, 2014 4:11 pm at 4:11 pm #1029035Sam2ParticipantDY: I laid a trap. He didn’t fall in. Hence, he’s not from Austin.
August 18, 2014 4:51 pm at 4:51 pm #1029036HaLeiViParticipantHe’s trying to clear out NYC. I hope he succeeds.
Anyhow, that explains where RebDaniel has been.
