While this looks like an important new innovation for the Torah world, it does feel that their pre-launch hype is a bit inappropriate. The music comes from the famous opening theme to 2001 A Space Odyssey – a movie of questionable appropriateness. Moreover this music comes from antisemitic composer Richard Strauss’s work Also Sprach Zarathustra which is in turn based on German philosopher Frederic Nietzche’s wotk of the same name. Zarathustra comes from Zoroastrianism – an ancient religion based in Iran that although monotheistic, is hardly appropriate for the subject matter. On top of that, the main thesis of Nietzche is that “G-d is Dead” chas v’shalom.
Beyond being inappropriate Jewishly , the selection of this music and the accompanying imagery is so obvious, so unoriginal so lacking in creativity. In other words the polar oppostie of this extraordinary new development that will no doubt spread Torah learning even more.
A development such as this deserved a more creative and more appropriate promotional theme

They probably had no idwa of the source of the music and your other issues.
March 5, 2012 7:27 pm at 7:27 pm #857911nitpickerParticipantI agree both with the complaint and the comment that they hadn’t a clue. why did they need the music at all?
March 5, 2012 8:25 pm at 8:25 pm #857912WolfishMusingsParticipantReally? An app as awesome as this one promises to be comes along and the main thing you can say about it is the choice of music at the start of the ad?
The first thing I thought of was “wow.” The next thing I thought of was “…just wow.” I *did* think about the music at some point, but it was just a minor after-thought.

March 6, 2012 12:39 am at 12:39 am #857915writersoulParticipantThat app is insanely cool, but the video was definitely waaaay over the top. The word ‘revolutionary’ was used far too many times and the beginning was just melodramatic.
March 6, 2012 12:59 am at 12:59 am #857916yitayningwutParticipantThere is nothing wrong with importing non-Jewish tunes.
