are some people more “approachable”? i was in Manhattan near BIMC and i got approached 2x. once a person asking for food (yes i gave her some) and a older couple asking me directions (which i provided). i wasnt walking down a deserted street but i was approached 2x. so i’m just wondering if its a 6th sense people have or i just have a sign on my forehead that says “really nice person who likes to help” (would not be surprized if its the latter 🙂 )
any other opinions?
November 23, 2011 11:02 pm at 11:02 pm #8296682qwertyParticipantI’ve noticed it also and i think there is something to it. In my opinion people are more likely to approach someone who looks open minded and non threatening.
It could be simple things like not crossing your hands together… i cant think of any more such signs right now.

Whenever he’s in a store, people come over to ask questions. even in stores where all the workers where a certain dress code(ex. black and black, tan and black…) and my father is just wearing his reg. white shirt, people always approach him. I guess he also has such a sign on his head.

On the days when you’re happier, you probably look up more, make/hold eye contact, maybe smile… These all indicate friendliness and approachability. On days when you might feel more down or under the weather, your eyes might be downcast more often, you may not look at people etc… We “read” each other as we walk by.
November 23, 2011 11:52 pm at 11:52 pm #829672OneOfManyParticipantI pass by a busy shopping center every day, and the salespeople on the sidewalk soliciting for their stores ALWAYS approach me, shove stuff into my hand, ask WEIRD questions (“Who cuts your hair?” – no joke), etc. I’ve started to think that there is some general target profile that I somehow fit exactly…
Yeah, not the type of approachable I would like to be. 😛

November 24, 2011 6:37 am at 6:37 am #829676HaLeiViParticipantWell, I know that I don’t approach just anyone. I don’t know if my sixth sense works properly but I do look for the ‘right’ guy. Perhaps the one who looks less uptight and has time for you.
November 24, 2011 12:03 pm at 12:03 pm #829677yentingyentaParticipantMy friends say I’m not yentish enough so I decided my SN wuould be yenta enough for 2. 🙂
