Does anyone have any tips on how to clean a grill pan? Please provide step by step instructions and what I will need. Tonight I used hot water from faucet and a sponge and dishwashing soap. Took quite some time and didn’t get everything. There was still some stickiness around the outer edges.

I do so very frequently. I use a cast iron one made by Lodge.

The simple solution is to not clean it. Simply put it in a shopping bag to keep the dust off.

You can try easy off spray. Leave it on for a bit and scrub it off. It comes off more easily.

Alternatively, you can soak it in scalding hot water and soap and use Brillo with or without soap to scrub it. Brillo works better than a soft sponge.

Make sure you also let the hot water cover the edges when it soaks or those areas will be harder to clean.

    Hi WIY,

I found that if I don’t clean the grill pan right away, all is lost. Right after I use it I run it under hot water, then I use a bissel brush not a sponge. The brissel ( not sure if I spelled that right) brush has a long handle, I use them for all my dishes I hate sponges, works well. I squirt liquid detergent on the brush and realy scrub the pan especially where it is greasy. Good luck!

That makes no sense to me. The gunk will just keep growing and growing until you have a layer of it covering the whole pot. No thanks.

You sure brillo isn’t too rough on a grill pan? Don’t want to damage it.

I have found that filling the sink with boiling hot water and strong soap (the key being stronger soap then regular soap) for about 1/2 an hr usually works, along with something like steel wool (it’s not steel wool though, but it’s a scrubber) and a little bit of elbow grease. Also if there’s an oil issue, I find that putting the soap directly on the pan, and then using your hands to wash it as opposed to a sponge, gets the oil off.

    Try white vinegar.

Do you mean an appliance like the George Forman? That beats me. Unless you mean a pan that goes on the stove. That you can soak in the sink and wash like any other pot or pan. If it has non-stick finish you can’t use brillo. A plastic brillo or brush or a rough sponge will work. If it does not have a non-stick coating, you can try brillo but it might still scratch the pan, but you can spray Dawn Power Dossolver on it. Works like a charm on anything greasy.

I have a non-stick grill pan that I use ALL the time for chicken, the easiest way to clean, is to fill it with water (half way)and squeeze some dish-washing soap (dawn, fairy)in the pan add a tablespoon or two of baking soda, boil it up, watch it so that it doesn’t go over the pan. Wait till it cools down and wash it out. It comes clean as new. If u ever burn a pot, boil it up with baking soda, cleans it very nicely.

It doesn’t. I use it all the time. It has a bit of gunk, but is generally pretty clean. Pans are supposed to be greasy.

If pan on fire (not like a George F)

boil some water with 3 tbs of baking powder all the gunk will slide off with a sponge with out scratching your pan.

If a George Forman style grill or oven tray spray with “SANO – Javel Cold Grease Remover”

Place in garbage bag and close tightly. Leave overnight

Next morning lightly rinse with sponge.

All these tips are for saving your pans from getting scratched and ruined
