January 13, 2009 4:30 pm at 4:30 pm #695290CuriousMemberHow’s everyone’s running doing in the cold weather?
Shindy – have you joined any of those Freehold races?
January 13, 2009 10:13 pm at 10:13 pm #695292AshreinuParticipantSaying goodbye for a bit…
Going away for 2 weeks to a balmy climate. Yay!
Taking my running gear, because I want to leave footprints in the sand and not beach chair prints…ok, maybe there’ll be some of those:)
Sayonara!
January 13, 2009 10:55 pm at 10:55 pm #695293areivimzehlazehParticipantashreinu- sayonara? you headed to japan?

i love running in the cold with the wind blowing in my face!!!
January 14, 2009 4:54 am at 4:54 am #695298CuriousMemberasdf – I love starting the run with hat and gloves only to have it tucked in my pocket 10 minutes later…
January 14, 2009 5:10 am at 5:10 am #695299asdfghjklParticipantCurious: i know the feeling!! i can’t stand running with a hat!!!
January 14, 2009 5:51 am at 5:51 am #695300surferMemberill stick to running on a treadmill.
January 14, 2009 6:02 am at 6:02 am #695301asdfghjklParticipantsurfer: try outside, it’s such a mechayah!!!
January 14, 2009 6:06 am at 6:06 am #695302surferMemberdont like the cold
January 14, 2009 6:15 am at 6:15 am #695303asdfghjklParticipantsurfer: the cold is great!!! in the future when talking to a poster write their name before your comment, so we don’t get confused if it not a fast postin night like tonight!!!
January 14, 2009 9:47 am at 9:47 am #695304chaimssParticipantOur treadmill just died so I may have to actually run outside now… I’m not looking forward to it but I have a running suit. As far as my head… we’ll see…
January 14, 2009 2:54 pm at 2:54 pm #695305yoshiMemberI’m hating the cold right now, it’s just awful! If I didn’t have a ski mask to run in, I don’t think I could withstand the wind factor, and it’s only going to be getting colder. waaaaaa
I love running though, so some cold, wind, rain, or snow isn’t going to stop me!
Only 9 1/2 more months! Am I going to see any of you folks there? We should create a YW CR Team!!!
January 14, 2009 9:42 pm at 9:42 pm #695306CuriousMemberyoshi – you’re tempting me. 9 1/2 months, many more miles to go…
January 21, 2009 3:09 pm at 3:09 pm #695307yoshiMemberAnyone else here find it incredibly awful to run in the snow and ice?! I miss the warm weather! Let’s just hope the groundhog doesn’t see his shadow this year 😉
January 21, 2009 9:35 pm at 9:35 pm #695308CuriousMemberI don’t mind the cold and snow. Ice is the huge problem. I’d rather run on the treadmill than risk some broken bones when it’s too icy outside.
January 22, 2009 1:10 am at 1:10 am #695309asdfghjklParticipanti like the cold, but the ice is horrible!!! i only ran for 45min today cause i didn’t want to turn into an ice-icle!!! i know a guy who just walked to shul yesterdday & broke his arm on the ice!!! it’s crazy out there!!!
January 22, 2009 3:01 pm at 3:01 pm #695310yoshiMemberWhere I run, there are several ice patches (especially when I run in the early mornings). When I come face to face with the menacing ice patch, I hop right over it (praying that I don’t miscalculate and fall flat on my face). Does anyone recall the endless rain we had a little while back? There were puddles everywhere. One was so deep, I practically swam across it (no joke!). My toes were icicles and my sneakers were drenched and were terribly heavy.
Hey, anyone have funny, or interesting running stories they’d like to share?
January 23, 2009 7:44 pm at 7:44 pm #695311CuriousMemberI hope you all took huge advantage of the gorgeous weather today! It was amazing!
Yoshi – During my run today, I passed an old Russian guy with a cane. As I pass him, he starts yelling “Faster, faster, faster!” I had a good laugh. I guess he wants me to make up for whatever he can’t.
And I am the only one who attracts dogs while I’m running? I hate them!
January 23, 2009 8:49 pm at 8:49 pm #695312JosephParticipantopposites attract.
January 24, 2009 11:54 pm at 11:54 pm #695313CuriousMemberThanks for the comforting words Joseph.
January 25, 2009 2:33 am at 2:33 am #695314JosephParticipantI’m glad the comfort didn’t come from the dogs! 🙂
January 25, 2009 5:19 am at 5:19 am #695315CuriousMemberJoseph – when you start jogging/running you’ll be invited back to this thread…
January 25, 2009 3:16 pm at 3:16 pm #695316JosephParticipantCurious – You have not been using YWN or the CR long enough. I don’t need an invitation to any thread.
February 10, 2009 3:48 am at 3:48 am #695317CuriousMemberHere’s my attempt to get Ashreinu and yoshi back:
Any of you monitor your HR while running?
When I use the treadmill, I check my HR every so often and it shoots up much higher than I’d like it to. I’ve tried running slower and it has helped a little, but my HR is still sustained at a much higher rate than it should be.
(You can check out Runner’s World for the desired HR zones)
February 10, 2009 5:17 am at 5:17 am #695318chofetzchaimMemberUnfortunately, there was a tragedy a few days ago where a young man running on a treadmill was niftar: http://www.theyeshivaworld.com/article.php?p=30062
In the comments somebody posted that there are some young people who have certain heart conditions that can make exercise dangerous.
February 10, 2009 5:20 am at 5:20 am #695319asdfghjklParticipantCurious: nope i never bother with gadgets!!! i had a geshmak run this am!!! so glad ya got this thread back up & running(ha funny one!!!)
February 10, 2009 5:31 am at 5:31 am #695320torahtzivaMemberrunning is a waste of time.
February 10, 2009 5:42 am at 5:42 am #695321asdfghjklParticipanttorahtziva: it is not!!! once you start you’ll love it!!!
February 10, 2009 7:20 am at 7:20 am #695322AshreinuParticipantWith whatever criteria you’re using, “v’nishmartem me’od” would be a waste of time as well. Just eat lotsa sugar, junk food, processed foods (the more preservatives and chemicals the better!) make sure to overeat, don’t get checkups, don’t use a dentist or any other medial practitioner (G-d forbid) and whatever you do, DON’T EAT YOUR VEGGIES! They’re a waste of precious time too! Don’t make any efforts to improve general wellbeing in life AT ALL – that is DEFINETELY a waste of time.
(Sorry for the sarcasm, it’s outta character for me, but that comment was just begging for it)
February 12, 2009 2:48 am at 2:48 am #695323qwertyuiopMembertorahtziva: i perssonally don’t run, but i can assure you that it isn’t a waste of time.$
February 13, 2009 6:51 am at 6:51 am #695324asdfghjklParticipantames: yeah you could-running on a machine, makes you a runner still!!! but one of these days try a good morning run outside, it’s awesome!!!! i run every morning for an hour & a half after shachris, before yeshiva!!! i’m kinda a fitness fanatic!!!
February 13, 2009 4:07 pm at 4:07 pm #695325qwertyuiopMemberasdfghjkl: how many times are you gonna tell us that you run every morning for an hour & a half after shachris, before yeshiva.$
February 13, 2009 6:05 pm at 6:05 pm #695326asdfghjklParticipantqwertyuiop: sorry for repeating it so many times!!! i just wasn’t sure if she knew abt it cause she was gone for a bit & this thread was b4 her time!!!
ames: curious is a girl & she runs daily!!!
February 13, 2009 6:33 pm at 6:33 pm #695327qwertyuiopMemberasdfghjkl: don’t worry.$
February 13, 2009 7:00 pm at 7:00 pm #695328torahtzivaMemberwhat is the point in running, learning torah is healthier?
February 13, 2009 7:32 pm at 7:32 pm #695329qwertyuiopMembertorahtziva: i forgot who states(if smeone else knows, please tell us.$ that it’s important for a person to excersise his body.$
February 13, 2009 8:24 pm at 8:24 pm #695330CuriousMemberames, I’m flattered.
If you have a treadmill at home or a gym membership, you can run indoors. Also, I don’t run within my neighborhood. I’ll either walk (my warmup) away from the center and then run, or I’ll drive to a park/not so populated frum area.
Disclaimer: I do NOT run daily, if I run 3-4x/week I’m happy. This AM I set my alarm clock early to go run before work. Instead… hit snooze and went right back to bed 😉
torahtzivah – I do both at the same time, run while listening to a shiur. What’s better than that? Tending to body and soul.
February 15, 2009 1:51 am at 1:51 am #695331asdfghjklParticipanttorahtziva: yes learning torah is healthier, yet we need time to unwind in a healthy way too!!! as qwertyuiop mentioned it’s important to do excersise in order so that you can better serve Hashem & do mitzvos!!!
qwertyuiop: i think that vort is in referance to shema!!!
Curious: ha i hope you make up for that run by running double time next time!!!
February 16, 2009 2:48 am at 2:48 am #695332qwertyuiopMemberCurious: that sounds like something i would do.$
February 16, 2009 5:05 am at 5:05 am #695333CuriousMemberHey c’mon qwerty – asdf’s enthusiasm can’t rub off on you?
February 17, 2009 1:59 am at 1:59 am #695334asdfghjklParticipantqwertyuiop: yeah buddy, my enthusiasm didn’t rub off on you yet?????
February 17, 2009 2:53 am at 2:53 am #695335CuriousMemberIt’s got a long way to go across the globe apparently…
February 17, 2009 3:42 am at 3:42 am #695336qwertyuiopMemberCurious & asdfghjkl: i like to sleep, when i’m in the mood.$
February 17, 2009 4:25 am at 4:25 am #695337asdfghjklParticipantqwertyuiop: i too love to sleep, yet i make it my obligation to run & exercise as much as i could!!!!
February 17, 2009 6:57 am at 6:57 am #695338qwertyuiopMemberasdfghjkl: that’s great, i guess we have different schedules.$
February 17, 2009 7:07 am at 7:07 am #695339asdfghjklParticipantqwertyuiop: i guess so then!!!!
February 18, 2009 7:12 pm at 7:12 pm #695340yoshiMemberWOW! It’s so nice to see that this thread is still alive! YAY! How has everyone’s running been in this bitter and windy cold winter? I hate running in the cold, and I hate having to wear so many layers, it just weighs so much to run with. I just wanted to announce that I’m up to 13.5 miles now and approximately 70 miles a week!! I just hope I’m able to make it more than 26 miles by November…
February 18, 2009 10:06 pm at 10:06 pm #695341qwertyuiopMemberyoshi: welcome back, and that’s a lot of running you do.$
