I was wondering if there are any frum Beatle fans out there like myself. You can come out of the closet – no one knows your identities.

Nope. I live alone in octopus’s garden in a yellow submarine where all you need is love. It would be great if we could come together. I want to hold your hand and sing with you. Then when I’m sixty-four I will say, “Remember yesterday when we would sing Beatles songs and run through strawberry fields forever.” With a little help from my friends I’ll get out of this submarine and- oh here comes the sun got to go.

Isn’t Sir Paul McCartney the only one left? He has always been a gentleman and always conducted himself as a true British citizen as far as I can recall. Yes I will always be a Beatles fan. Not because of the antics or the publicity stunts but because of the Music and some of the messages that sent. I don’t recall them ever to be vulgar or irritating while their counterparts use shock value to gain attention.

Listening to them and Simon & Garfunkel gives you a lot more hisoirerus than listening to lipa and all of today’s half-baked jewish music.

I listen to them every now and then. I wouldn’t consider myself a big “fan” of them. I’m living in the 70’s and 80’s musically, not too much in the 60’s.

Ringo Starr is still around as well.

I was never a huge Beetles fan, but I find that my appreciation of them has grown as I’ve gotten older.

it was a different era back then. We didn’t have access to the kind of jewish music and jewish icons/singers that we have today.

zahavasdad: “Imagine” isn’t about atheism per se; anti-secular music Jews sometimes hinge on one line of the song (“and no religion too”) and claim that the song is atheistic thus pasuling all Beatles music and all “non-Jewish” music as well. If you listen to the full song it is pretty clear that the song is about the destructiveness of man-made civilization; how man has used his ability to oppress his fellows through various devices – including man-made institutional religion. Agree or disagree with the view expressed, it isn;t about atheism.

Also, “Imagine” isn’t even by the Beatles. It was by John Lennon (one of the four Beatles) and his wife, and was written and recorded after the band broke up.

“Imagine” is about atheism “Above us only sky, no religion too”…”imagine no possessions”.

Thefrumguy, the mods have confirmed that there is an active stalker here. People need to be careful what info they release.

I’ll always be a Beatles fan. My daughter asked for a birthday present a CD with the Boston Pops under Arthur Fiedler doing Beatles songs. That way she gets to enjoy the music, and not worry about lyrics.

When I was in 12th grade, my parents spoke with my Rebbe about the fact that I enjoy non-Jewish music. His response was, “When we were his age, we listened to the Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel, so why is he any different?”

Just to note, my 12th grade Rebbe’s family was very close to my mother’s family. They lived on the same block, and both families knew each other well, so he knew what music they listened to.

McCartney’s first wife was also Jewish, which makes his children Jewish, which, perhaps, explains why his daughter Stella is in the garment business 🙂

Jothar, how could you have been 12 when the White and Black albums came out? There’s a gap of 20 years between them.

The Black album was pretty much the end of their glory days. Sad, but true. I dub them unforgiven for selling out. And I have no remorse for that. Am I evil? Possibly, but I just want justice for all. But really, no one can judge aside from the Master of puppets. The rest of us simply fade to black..all we can hope for is being the hero of the day.

I was 12 when the double album came out… both the MBD double album and the Use Your Illusion double album… nothing lasts forever, daaga minayin?

I was 12 when the Dark Side of the Moon came out… the Wizard of Oz was never the same.

Actually, the Beatles, who were great, no doubt, were media favorites who owe a plethora of hakaras hatov to George Martin who orchestrated nearly all of their songs. They also received too much credit for being innovative as their counter cultural influence was actually motivated by the experiences of the hippie movement such as the Grateful Dead and Ken Kesey, as evidenced in a popular, at that time, Tom Wolfe book.

The Beatles changed the world, but they were a conduit for sounds and styles they did not necessarily originate. But they are always good to hear, and as Brits, they are true Americana with songs that are timeless. I like to say that while other bands during that time made great music, the Beatles wrote great songs.

BTGuy, you’re right that Spinal Tap had an album that the cover was all black, because the original cover of that album caused quite an outrage. But I don’t think it was referred to as “the Black album”.

Spinal Tap’s Black Album was fiction, as was Nigel Tufnel’s special amp which was so loud it could be cranked to 11, and the drummer that spontaneously combusted during the performance. Metallica’s eponymous Black Album was fact.

The Rutles were a legend that will last a lunchtime. All you need is cash!
