Recently I read a YELP review for a Glatt kosher restaurant in the NYC area which is disturbing and hateful (especially after Pittsburgh tragedy). I ended up sending a message to the member, reporting the member to YELP, and contacting the restaurant- but I’d like to know if I’m too sensitive or did I do the right thing? This statement stood out “the fact that only religious jewish folks seemed to be dining there was the catalyst for me walking out.” Name of Restaurant and town is removed. Did anyone else ever encounter a seemingly antisemitic statement on review of a Jewish/kosher business?
If I could give xxxx a 0 stars, I would. I walked into this place today after driving 25 minutes through traffic to get a sandwich from what I thought was a nice xxxx place. Instead on the other side of the glass doors are a cluster of bad energy, a owner yelling at his employees “let’s go, lets go!!!! HURRY UP get these orders out” He sounded like a slave master. The food didn’t smell like good aroma, therefore I requested a menu. The owner yelled from 6ppl away, “WE DON’T HAVE MENU’S ITS SIMPLE, BURGER, TURKEY, PASTRAMI, CHEESE OR SALAD THAT’S IT!!!$@#%&*…. The two young ladies at the front were incredibly frazzled, they were stuttering and tripping over their own words. It was an incredibly humiliating, embarrassing, demeaning, insulting experience. The place was cold in temperature and energy. The yelling, coupled with “eat whatever” no menu and the fact that only religious jewish folks seemed to be dining there was the catalyst for me walking out. I would suggest if your hungry and want great options for food? Go to another restaurant. You’d save yourself the nightmare on xxxx Rd experience.October 30, 2018 11:49 am at 11:49 am #1613657Avram in MDParticipantYes, I have seen anti-Semitic Yelp reviews of kosher restaurants. I’ve also seen ignorant complaints, e.g., stupid pizza place, they had no pepperoni! Or, stupid burger place, they had no cheese! The writing on this review is so poor and incoherent, I can’t be 100% sure that it’s purely anti-Semitic. If the owner/manager indeed was verbally abusing the staff, if the food did indeed smell bad, and if the reviewer’s request for a menu was indeed met with profanity and hostility, then the 1-star rating would certainly be justified. I do not understand the comment about only religious Jews eating there being a catalyst for walking out. If he was uncomfortable with religious Jews, then yes, it would be anti-Semitic. If he meant that the only patrons eating there seemed to be a captive clientele, i.e., there were only religious Jews in there, and they were only there because it was the sole kosher restaurant in the vicinity, then it wouldn’t necessarily be anti-Semitic. But at any rate, it’s very poorly worded.

Cheese? In a fleishig restaurant? I wonder what hashgacha it is

I’ve seen a very negative, anti-Frum review on a Jewish owned hotel out of state, by someone apparently OTD. Maybe some of his arguments were true (men using the pool as a Mikva on Shabbos) but his accusing tone was awful and had probably not been an issue if he didn’t actively seek those out.
