Help me! I am a student who recently started interning in my career. I finish the day exhausted and just want to sleep. However, I still have tests. It doesnt help to sleep just a little- I need a good few hours afterwards and then I still go to sleep pretty early. What should I do?
March 7, 2013 10:53 pm at 10:53 pm #935839kkls45Memberred bull would help
March 7, 2013 11:14 pm at 11:14 pm #935840SecularFrummyMemberIs red bull kosher these days?
March 8, 2013 2:56 am at 2:56 am #935841shnitzyMemberCoffee. In the long run, red bull will be totally counterproductive.
March 8, 2013 8:14 am at 8:14 am #935842realtalkMemberDoesn’t help me- makes me fall asleep- I try it for a night shift.
March 8, 2013 7:26 pm at 7:26 pm #935843shnitzyMemberWhich one?
Something sugary.
A ten minute run. (I’m serious about this one. It really works. Gets your adrenaline goin`)
March 10, 2013 2:06 pm at 2:06 pm #935844realtalkMemberCaffeine does not help- and I hate coffee. Sugar makes me feel tired and heavy. I have no energy after an 8 hour shift of rnnning around to go for a run which in the long run (no pun intented) will make me even more tired.
March 10, 2013 2:21 pm at 2:21 pm #935845oomisParticipantCan you take catnaps during the day, at all, so you are able to stay up to study? Truthfully, this should not be an ongoing thing (though I know it is). You need regular good quality sleep. I have heard that some interns learn to sleep standing up. I really don’t know what will help you. I am so opposed to the schedule you are put on when you become a doctor. It is not good for the interns OR the patients. Hatzlacha rabbah.
March 10, 2013 2:26 pm at 2:26 pm #935846realtalkMembernope- Im a nursing intern, not a dr.I am also in Israel and the shifts are shorter so there is a maximum of 16 hours at a time.

Sorry, no sympathy from me. Nurses have it easy compared to others in different areas of medicine. Grin and bear it. Sleep when you can.

He didn’t ask for sympathy. He wanted suggestions.
Realtalk: Try squeezing in a few minutes of studying on your lunch break, if you have. If you take public transportation, you can study a bit while commuting. Good luck.

I did give him/her suggestions -read my whole post next time.

Here is another. I used to sleep on the way there and back. I took public transportation -eg. bus, train.
March 10, 2013 6:39 pm at 6:39 pm #935850realtalkMemberI don’t have a lunch break and I live on hospital grounds. Here in Israel, the nurses have a much bigger responsibility than in America. I finish my shift after maybe sitting 20 minutes the entire time. I get back, sleep for a couple hours and then go to sleep early. Any solutions for me?

Lucky you. You don’t have to commute – So you can sleep when you’re not working. I sometimes did 6 hours of commuting a day.
March 10, 2013 6:59 pm at 6:59 pm #935852realtalkMemberMy question is when do I study?

How about now -instead of blogging?

Wow. That’s a tough schedule, there. Try hibernating straight through Shabbos afternoon, study in bits and pieces whenever you have 10 minutes here and there.

Ah, that’s very big of you. Are you always so helpful?

Yes. Are you always so “Sharf”?
March 10, 2013 9:56 pm at 9:56 pm #935857realtalkMemberI actually dont have any tests- it is almost pesach

Depends who you ask.
March 11, 2013 4:38 am at 4:38 am #935859shnitzyMemberStop talking and start studying! Study during meals…on coffee break…even five minutes here and there make a huge difference.
It’s gonna be really tough, I won’t deny that. But, you can do it! And the end result is well worth all of the pressure. Also, if you focus on the negative aspects, you’ll just feel more and more weighed down. Rethink your reasons for doing this. Positivity really makes a world of a difference. And I am not just on a soapbox here. I’m speaking from experience. Hatzlacha! And remember, if you ever have an opportunity to get ahead Do Not Procrastinate. You’ll be so tempted to do other things. Don’t Give In. You’ll regret every second wasted, because there really isn’t enough time for it all. But, you gotta make do with what you have.
**Gosh, I can’t believe I actually wrote a totally serious post…And I’m actually laughing because of that…and that’s actually a sign that my bed is calling my name but I actually don’t have time to accommodate him…and in actuality, I just made a mod read five lines of nothing. That’s funny. If I do say so myself.
aw, 73 is proud
😛 I simply can’t imagine why.
March 11, 2013 8:22 pm at 8:22 pm #935860realtalkMemberThanks for the advice. I will try to put it into practice once I start again after Pesach
March 11, 2013 8:32 pm at 8:32 pm #935861shnitzyMemberBuena suerte! 🙂
