I am living in Israel now, and I am visiting the US in the next month. I would like to bring an Israeli ?? ?? (hot water urn) for my mother who lives in the US.

The reason I am looking for the Israeli version, is because it has 2 switches(one to boil the water, and one to keep the water hot for Shabbat).

Does anyone know where I can buy such an urn in Israel with am American plug?

The problem is not the plug, its that the USA uses 115v/60HZ and Israel uses 220v/50hz. You can change the plug but it won’t work in the USA as it will be getting about half the voltage.

What you want is something that can take 115v. It is possible that you can find such an urn in the USA if you look hard enough (though I don’t know where)

Let me jump into the hot water and tell you that you can save yourself all the trouble of buying the hot water urn in Israel and shlepping it all the way to the USA. While you are here, you can walk in to any store that sells electrical appliances in Boro Park. Flatbush, Williamsburg or Monsey and purchase just such an urn. No special switches are needed since those urns have two settings. “Boil” and “keep Warm”, which is a default setting from the factory.

p.s.: Poster Zach Kessin, was right on point with the advice that the voltage and frequency (Hz.) of any electrical appliance must be compatible to the power source, rather than the plug.

I just checked- you can buy this on Amazon. Search for hot water shabbat.
