What should someone do if he forgot to cancel his automatic monthly shipment of chometz products from Amazon (Subscribe & Save) and he receives the delivery on Pesach?
Should he reject the package from UPS (or whomever)? If it was already delivered by the post office, should he put it back in the mailbox/PO unopened, as refused? If FedEx dropped it in front of his house should he bring it in? If the carrier refuses to accept a return without an authorized return label from Amazon, what should he do?
April 16, 2019 12:31 pm at 12:31 pm #1715535iacisrmmaParticipantIf your credit card is charged it may already belong to you.
April 16, 2019 12:32 pm at 12:32 pm #1715534iacisrmmaParticipantthis is a question for a Rov not the CR.
April 16, 2019 1:44 pm at 1:44 pm #1715570YW Moderator-💯ModeratorLet this thread serve as a reminder: check your Subscribe and Save orders, and postpone any chometz shipments until after Pesach.
April 16, 2019 3:09 pm at 3:09 pm #1715577DovidBTParticipantDoes selling your chometz and/or nullifying it cover this situation?
April 16, 2019 3:09 pm at 3:09 pm #1715573ubiquitinParticipant“this is a question for a Rov not the CR.”
why can’t this be discussed in the coffeeroom?
April 16, 2019 4:32 pm at 4:32 pm #1715618justme22Participant@dovidbt I would think that it would depend on the date of the actual payment being charged to the credit card. If the transaction occurred before the chametz was sold and it was only the shipment that ocurred during pesach then I assume you would be right
April 16, 2019 5:41 pm at 5:41 pm #1715874JosephParticipantAmazon charges the credit card the same day the items ship. (Credit card rules require that any merchant not charge prior to shipment.) The authorization may have been an earlier date.
April 16, 2019 5:42 pm at 5:42 pm #1716159iacisrmmaParticipantdovidbt: this is why I think the question is for a Rov. The sale and the nullifying is only for what you have on erev pesach. You cant sell something you dont own yet.
April 16, 2019 5:42 pm at 5:42 pm #1716160ujmParticipantWe need R’ Yair Hoffman to address this question.
April 16, 2019 5:42 pm at 5:42 pm #1716168Reb EliezerParticipantCall to get a return authorization without opening ir otherwise refuse to accept it as by a Jew meshicha creates ownership.
April 16, 2019 7:19 pm at 7:19 pm #1716211Reb EliezerParticipantIf left there, you show you don’t want to acquire it by indicating that you want to return it by being mesalek yourself from ownership.
April 16, 2019 7:19 pm at 7:19 pm #1716202iacisrmmaParticipantubiquitin: we can “discuss” anything but if one needs a psak I will always opt for asking a Rov, not the CR.
April 17, 2019 9:48 am at 9:48 am #1716522Reb EliezerParticipantAccording to the Minchas Chen on the Haggadah you make the rav a poal (worker) for you by paying him, so you can sell chametz which was bought after the mechirah.
April 17, 2019 9:48 am at 9:48 am #1716493ubiquitinParticipant“but if one needs a psak I will always opt for asking a Rov, not the CR.”
Yes that goes without saying.
Joseph isn’t looking for a psak. The story isn’t real, it Pesach is still a few days away. It is just an interesting discussion .
That said, this discussion isn’t particularly interesting (to me) as it seems to be a befeirish mechaber and MB

Metaltelin are not aquired by kesef so the fact that it was paid for is irrelevant (even assuming credit card counts as “kesef”)
April 17, 2019 1:12 pm at 1:12 pm #1716752ujmParticipantAre you koneh it if your dog brought the package in from the front porch?
April 18, 2019 6:44 am at 6:44 am #1717323Shimon NodelParticipantIt all depends on when a kinyan was made. I think even if it was left on your porch, you need to have daas to be koneh. I think you may just have to leave it there or even take it off your property until after yom tov. (I think it needs to be in a place that’s not meshumar.) If it’s still there after yom tov, you can keep it.
April 22, 2019 6:03 pm at 6:03 pm #1718341JosephParticipantWhat if the automatic order is billed/shipped on Pesach but is delivered after Pesach.
Must you burn it?
April 22, 2019 8:26 pm at 8:26 pm #1718361Reb EliezerParticipantJoseph, isn’t the sender responsible until it arrives to you?
April 22, 2019 10:44 pm at 10:44 pm #1718405jerkoq12ParticipantIf you receive it in Pesach you need to discard it. You are not allowed to return for credit. Since you are not allowed to have hanoah on chinetz sheover ole pesach
April 22, 2019 11:20 pm at 11:20 pm #1718412👑RebYidd23ParticipantAre you allowed to return or sell the chametz and burn the money?
April 22, 2019 11:21 pm at 11:21 pm #1718416GadolhadorahParticipantBut since a chashuvah yid like Joseph presumably was at some fancy resort for yom tov and doesn’t get home until motzi yom tov, isn’t the real shaylah as to whether the Amazon delivery on his front doorstep has become some variation of chametz she’avar alav hapesach??
