In honor of the Shabbos Project, I think it’s appropriate that AYC’s “Shabbos Project” be Bumped. All over the world, Jews of all different backgrounds and levels of Orthodoxy are going to keep Shabbos together! This is an amazing event which we all should be part of.
But what are we doing to “keep Shabbos”? We are not doing anything different. We enjoy the davening, we stuff ourselves with food and we have our ???? ??????! We are not giving anything up for Shabbos!
Rabbi Shmuel Birnbaum ??”? said at one of the Shabbos Parades that we want people to close their stores and keep Shabbos, but what are we, the Torah world, giving up for Shabbos? The Rosh HaYeshiva suggested that before going home Shabbos morning to enjoy the seudah, one should learn ???? ????? ????? ??? (for a specific amount of time). From then on, the Rosh HaYeshiva did just that!
What better week to improve our Shabbos observance then this coming Shabbos? Imagine how this one Shabbos is going to shake the heavens! Hashem will cry tears of joy and say “Look at my children! Across the world they are keeping my Shabbos! Many for the very first time in their lives! Others strengthening their ????? ???! And others bringing in to their homes those who have no Shabbos! How can I continue to punish them when they are ?????? ????? ?????? ?????? ???????
????!
I, ??? ???, will try to be completely ready for Shabbos 40 minutes before ????? this week.
How are you #keepingittogether?
May this Shabbos be a ???? for ??? ????? and may we be ???? to greet ????, ????? ?????? ???!

October 21, 2014 9:24 pm at 9:24 pm #1045539Letakein GirlParticipantWow, that’s beautiful! Great idea, Sidi.
It’s embarrassing to admit, but I often find myself biting my nails on Shabbos. This shabbos, I will be extra vigilant!
October 21, 2014 11:41 pm at 11:41 pm #1045540SayIDidIt™ParticipantLG, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe I’ll join you! #keepingittogether!!

October 22, 2014 5:04 am at 5:04 am #1045542sm29ParticipantMostly music has a very nice video in their free videos about the song, “Just one Shabbos”
October 22, 2014 11:53 am at 11:53 am #1045543SayIDidIt™Participantsm29, that video is what made me check out “The Shabbos Project” and after watching some other videos I was totally blown away and on awe of this whole project. However, since I am still ???? and I don’t have my own Shabbos table, I felt I could not do much to participate in this amazing event until I remembered Reb Shmuel Birnbaum’s message from years back. Every one can be a part of this project! Join us! Pick something that you have trouble on your Shabbos observance and try this week to be extra careful with it. Remember to say ??? ??? so it should not be a promise.

Have an amazing Shabbos!!!
LG, only a couple more hours to bite your nails! You can do it! WE can do it! Hatzlacha!!
October 24, 2014 2:47 pm at 2:47 pm #1045550Little FroggieParticipantOh! I’m looking for someone without a Yarmulka to invite for Shabbos. (maybe my wife..)
October 24, 2014 3:02 pm at 3:02 pm #1045551ivoryParticipantShe’s not home yet?
October 24, 2014 3:17 pm at 3:17 pm #1045552Little FroggieParticipantJust kidding… Actually just yesterday!! (Wow, do you really keep track?!)
October 24, 2014 4:23 pm at 4:23 pm #1045553ivoryParticipantYou did mention it (once or twice) that she wasnt home…..
October 26, 2014 1:23 am at 1:23 am #1045554SayIDidIt™ParticipantLG, how’d it go? I managed B”H!
Hope you all had an awesome Shabbos!!
October 26, 2014 2:04 am at 2:04 am #1045555Letakein GirlParticipantI did it!!!! BH!!!
Great, I’m so happy for you, Sidi. We should really try coming up with a more permanent solution to out nail biting issue, though. Cuz we’re being mechallel shabbos, which means we’re getting kareis! Oh my goodness, that is so scary!
October 26, 2014 5:10 am at 5:10 am #1045556SayIDidIt™ParticipantI’m proud of us! And you are right, it is a very important issue. I’m not exactly sure what to do about it. Ever tried the yucky nail polish?
October 26, 2014 5:35 am at 5:35 am #1045557Letakein GirlParticipantYeah, I actually did. I enjoyed peeling it off that shabbos. Come to think of it, that was probably also assur…
Have you ever tried it?
October 27, 2014 12:09 am at 12:09 am #1045558SayIDidIt™ParticipantDo this until you reach your goal. Hopefully by then you would have broken this very bad habit! Don’t make the prize too big or you will get discouraged. Today, CDs cost about $15. So if each day you succeed, it will take a month to reach the goal. That sounds reasonable.
This idea can be used for any thing that you want to “Letakein”!
Maybe we should do it together and report to each other like a buddy system? If you want, let me know!
October 27, 2014 1:14 am at 1:14 am #1045559Letakein GirlParticipantWow, that sounds great! Awesome idea, SiDi.
Let’s do this! I just have to come up with some sorta incentive. You have something in mind yet?
October 27, 2014 7:42 pm at 7:42 pm #1045560SayIDidIt™ParticipantNot 100% sure, but I think so. Any “rules” you wanna change?
October 28, 2014 1:49 am at 1:49 am #1045561Letakein GirlParticipantNope, I think the rules are very reasonable.
Btw, I stopped myself from biting my nails twice today! 🙂
Wouldn’t have done that without our lil project here.
October 28, 2014 2:22 am at 2:22 am #1045562SayIDidIt™ParticipantVery good! I didn’t 🙁 I gotta start working on it!
I think I’m going to start wearing disposable gloves at night. I lie in bed and bite my nails all night!
I heard somewhere (maybe read it here in the CR) that if you work on not biting your nails because of Shabbos, whenever you stop yourself during the week you are being ???? ??? and get a ????!!
October 28, 2014 10:59 pm at 10:59 pm #1045563SayIDidIt™ParticipantToday is my first day and so far so good!
How’s it going for you?
If anyone else wants to join (does not have to be biting your nails. Anything you what to break out of) feel free to join!
October 28, 2014 11:41 pm at 11:41 pm #1045564Letakein GirlParticipantSo happy to hear it’s going well for you!
I’ve told my friends to stop me if they notice me biting my nails, so that’ll probably help.
I’m clean so far, today, Baruch HaShem.
October 28, 2014 11:45 pm at 11:45 pm #1045565sm29ParticipantAcrylics are probably the only thing that helps me since i can’t reach it it’s covered
October 29, 2014 12:24 am at 12:24 am #1045566🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantYou guys have definitely got me on board! I don’t bite my nails on shabbos anymore but I still have sooo many other things to work on!
October 29, 2014 12:26 am at 12:26 am #1045567Letakein GirlParticipantWelcome, Syag! So awesome having you on board. 🙂
October 29, 2014 12:30 am at 12:30 am #1045568SayIDidIt™ParticipantLG, it’s great that you have “real” friends to help out!
sm, what are they?
SL, glad to have you join! The more the merrier!
October 29, 2014 4:10 am at 4:10 am #1045569sm29Participantfake nails, it helps since it covers mine
October 29, 2014 12:54 pm at 12:54 pm #1045570SayIDidIt™Participantsm, where can you buy them? Are they easy to come off? Can you peel it off like LG did with the yucky nail polish?
October 29, 2014 1:02 pm at 1:02 pm #1045571SayIDidIt™ParticipantSyag, “I don’t bite my nails on shabbos anymore”
How did you stop?
October 29, 2014 7:31 pm at 7:31 pm #1045572🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantWhen I would bite my nails, instead of saying, “oish, I shouldn’t have done that” I would say, “I can’t believe I was Michalel Shabbos”. That made a deeper imprint on my subconscious, and eventually would trigger my consciousness when I was about to do it. When I think about it as nail biting, it doesn’t sound so bad. When I label it as Chilul Shabbos, it becomes something to avoid.
Then I had popa administer a few sessions of CBT therapy . . . and the rest is history.
October 29, 2014 7:35 pm at 7:35 pm #1045573☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantThen I had popa administer a few sessions of CBT therapy . . . and the rest is history.
lol
October 29, 2014 11:39 pm at 11:39 pm #1045574SayIDidIt™ParticipantBTW, when is the day officially over? When do you put in (or ?”? take out) the money to your pushka?
Syag, I like that! Will have to try it Shabbos!
October 29, 2014 11:45 pm at 11:45 pm #1045575SayIDidIt™ParticipantSyag, “I don’t bite my nails on shabbos anymore”
Do you still bite during the week?
October 30, 2014 1:21 am at 1:21 am #1045576Letakein GirlParticipantI think that whenever you go to sleep would be considered the end of the day. That means that if you night your nails in bed, it should be accounted for the next day.
Makes sense?
October 30, 2014 1:31 am at 1:31 am #1045577SayIDidIt™ParticipantYup. Gloves help (also during the day but be ready to explain why you are wearing gloves all day!)
October 30, 2014 4:45 am at 4:45 am #1045578🍫Syag LchochmaParticipanti don’tbite them during the week, i peel them/pick at them.
October 30, 2014 6:04 am at 6:04 am #1045579SayIDidIt™ParticipantI do that too sometimes. But now I’m trying to stop that as well. In a way, it can be harder because your hands/fingers are right there! And yucky nail polish won’t help with it either!
So far, I’m clean for two days!
October 31, 2014 12:01 am at 12:01 am #1045580SayIDidIt™ParticipantI will try, ??? ???, to be completely ready for Shabbos 40 minutes before ????? this week as well. (Halachic Note: I am not accepting upon myself to do this every week. Even if I accept Shabbos 40 min early 3 weeks in a row, it should not be considered a Chazaka.)
My Anti-Nail-Biting project is going good so far, B”H!
LG, how are you doing?
Syag, did you join us?
October 31, 2014 12:54 am at 12:54 am #1045581🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantabsotively! I think I’m going to try to work on not being angry/upset on Shabbos. Maybe if I can get it down one day a week Hashem will reward me with an extension 🙂
October 31, 2014 2:05 pm at 2:05 pm #1045582SayIDidIt™ParticipantSyag, that sounds like an interesting one! Hatzlacha!
Wishing you all a No-Biting-Easy Shabbos! Enjoy the Kedusha (that doesn’t say Kiddush [or kishka] bit enjoy that too!)!

November 2, 2014 3:08 am at 3:08 am #1045583Letakein GirlParticipantHow was Shabbos, Sidi and Syag?
BH, I made it through clean! I had to stop myself several times, though…
November 2, 2014 3:22 am at 3:22 am #1045584🍫Syag LchochmaParticipant🙁
I almost made it but in the last two hours I ended up ripping off some cuticle that had been bugging me all day. At least it worked the first few hours . . .that’s somewhat encouraging.
Good for you tho!!!
November 2, 2014 3:33 am at 3:33 am #1045585Letakein GirlParticipantOh well… Hashem loves you for trying! We’ll do it next time. 🙂
November 2, 2014 8:06 am at 8:06 am #1045586SayIDidIt™Participant??? ????!
I was unable to accept Shabbos 40 min early because of a virus which rendered me bedridden all Friday morning. ?”? it basically went away before Shabbos.
I managed to stay bite-free all of Shabbos!! (However, I did bite my lips one or two times. Gotta work on that.)
It is harder this way cause you can’t tell yourself only X hours till ????? and then you can eat up all those nails!
LG, great job!
Syag, it’s not easy and you definitely get points (in Shomayim) for trying! Even stopping yourself one time is precious to Hashem!

November 2, 2014 12:53 pm at 12:53 pm #1045587Letakein GirlParticipantSo glad you’re feeling better, SiDi. BH!
November 2, 2014 2:22 pm at 2:22 pm #1045588SayIDidIt™ParticipantI wanna bite my thumb nail soooo badly! :'(
