There shouldn’t be alcohol if there is nobody willing to be a responsible adult about it. I have no problem with a l’chaim or two at a kiddush, but I do have a problem with the people that stand around the booze table and get completely shikkered up, which usually leads to rowdiness and general acting like buffoons. Even IF they were preventing children from drinking, is this the example we want our kids to learn from?
The liquor needs to be controlled, so that nobody under the legal drinking age has access. Sadly, before that can happen, many peoples’ general attitudes towards alcohol and responsible drinking need to be addressed.
