what do you think of the new security at the airports with the new body scanners , ok or no
November 15, 2010 7:43 pm at 7:43 pm #711233arcParticipantit is what it is. people like to kvetch.
November 15, 2010 7:45 pm at 7:45 pm #711234chesednameParticipantperfectly fine.
they are professionals and strangers, no different then your Dr looking at you.
if they didn’t do it, and there was a terrorist attack, the security ppl would be responsible. so they can’t win here.
November 15, 2010 8:02 pm at 8:02 pm #711235sms007Membernoooo way. they do give you the option of having a pat down instead (i think that’s what it’s called)
November 15, 2010 8:12 pm at 8:12 pm #711236blinkyParticipantsms- i heard pat downs are very thorough i think between the pat downs and scanner i would choose scanner though the idea is quite nauseating!
November 15, 2010 8:30 pm at 8:30 pm #711237labubbyMemberhow bad is it anyway whats everyone complaining about?
November 15, 2010 8:41 pm at 8:41 pm #711238sms007Memberblinky- really? uh oh, good you told me since were flying soon. i’m starting to get a bit naseoussss!!!! add that to the list of reasons to back out from the trip lol
November 15, 2010 8:46 pm at 8:46 pm #711239SacrilegeMemberYes, the pat-down have gotten A LOT more thorough (thanks to our good friend, the underwear bomber)
That being said, its same gender pat down so really, I think everyone can take a chill.
November 15, 2010 9:14 pm at 9:14 pm #711242sms007Memberok, ok we got the point. we now know pat down isnt so much better.
November 15, 2010 9:22 pm at 9:22 pm #711243SacrilegeMemberChesed
Trust me, the TSA guy isnt thrilled about it either.
I had a female TSA lady give me the FULL pat down before these new stringencies were added. I was called out of the line (wonder if it had to do with my tzahal sweatshirt 😉 and was THOROUGHLY frisked, its not such a big deal.
November 15, 2010 10:18 pm at 10:18 pm #711244ronrsrMemberdon’t the body scanners obscure your face and obscure the fine details of your body?
You can always take the bus.
November 15, 2010 10:18 pm at 10:18 pm #711245bptParticipantmy tzahal sweatshirt 😉
?????????!
Let me get this straight. Miss Kensetonia, daughter of someone really choshuv, davens like a brisker, and wears a sweatshirt?
November 15, 2010 10:22 pm at 10:22 pm #711246ronrsrMemberThough I think many of the TSA’s security measures are a bit lame, I prefer to know my fellow passengers have gone through the scanner.
Also, check out today’s news for a story of a man who refused to be scanned. Let’s see what happens next.
November 15, 2010 10:33 pm at 10:33 pm #711247jhcvivgwryParticipantNovember 15, 2010 10:46 pm at 10:46 pm #711249matjash@loxxxxxxParticipantthe new airport scanner is soo wrong it violations our privacy!!!
November 15, 2010 10:47 pm at 10:47 pm #711250deiyezoogerMemberthey say better save then sorry so lets stick with as much security as possible even if it’s yuk or annoying, right with me on that one? to bad if not that’s what staying anyway, it might get only worse.
November 15, 2010 11:08 pm at 11:08 pm #711251labubbyMemberwhat does the oilam tanyna about the guy in san diego airport , did he accomplish what he wanted to prove
November 15, 2010 11:12 pm at 11:12 pm #711252popa_bar_abbaParticipantThe guy in the airport did us all a favor, but really, he is an idiot. I am flying sunday, and while I think this is outrageous, I really need to get where I am going, so I will put up with it.
November 15, 2010 11:58 pm at 11:58 pm #711253oomisParticipantThe scanner is a virtual strip search, but as long as the scanners are nowhere near the people who are being scanned (meaning that the people looking at them are ONLY looking at the screen, but cannot see the actual person nearby), then I think it is preferable to being thoroughly groped by a stranger. That could actually traumatize our young women going to Seminary. As unpleasant as this might be, it is a necessary evil for our protection, and sakanas nefashos comes first.
November 16, 2010 12:26 am at 12:26 am #711254ronrsrMemberOh, oomis, you are so wise.
November 16, 2010 2:30 am at 2:30 am #711255SacrilegeMemberBPT
You are regressing in your people analysis.
Let me try to break it down:
“Miss Kensetonia”
In the realm of Flatbush, I dont even live close to Kensington.
“daughter of someone really choshuv”
I think so 🙂
“davens like a brisker”
I think Briskers everywhere should be offended that my poor pathetic excuse for prayer is likened to their Davening.
“and wears a sweatshirt?”
Heck yea! For days off and traveling. Low maintenance, ‘member 😉
November 16, 2010 5:39 am at 5:39 am #711256WIYMemberI have no problem with the beefed up security as long as they check everybody equally not just young kids and old ladies. Yes I expect every muslim to be checked just as thoroughly as everyone else.
November 16, 2010 5:43 am at 5:43 am #711257WIYMemberSacrilege
Tzahal sweatshirt? Are you a rebel without a cause?
November 16, 2010 9:41 am at 9:41 am #711258whatrutalkingabtMemberIs it better for a girl to be seen “virtually naked” by a man or should she rather opt for the pat down as gross as it is?
Is it allowed for frum women to go through the scanner?
November 16, 2010 9:44 am at 9:44 am #711259haifagirlParticipantAnd how many problems have they had with flights that originate at Ben Gurion? Zero. And they don’t have the intrusive security.
November 16, 2010 1:24 pm at 1:24 pm #711260tzippiMemberI’ve been frisked, probably because of long skirts and shirts in summer, but even in winter. The type of body search they’re talking about now is kind of distasteful absent some serious cause.
November 16, 2010 1:30 pm at 1:30 pm #711261mamashtakahMemberOf course, if they did security in the U.S. like the Israelis (i.e., profiling), they wouldn’t need all this mishugas.
November 16, 2010 2:42 pm at 2:42 pm #711262Mayan_DvashParticipantI’d probably opt for the pat-down. But only after eating 2 lbs. of chulent or a nice Greek Salad/Caesar Salad. Someone who is really daring would go for “MoviPrep” – stuff you drink before getting a colonoscopy.

November 19, 2010 3:59 am at 3:59 am #711264HaLeiViParticipantThis is a very unnecessary evil. First of all, some things are just off limits no matter if you have a good reason. Second, the burn himself bomber could have and should have been rejected with a system already in place. His bomb was pounced upon by those who couldn’t wait for something that they can use to publicize it. Olam Golam falls for it. Third of all, which is my ever repeated point, there is no reason for a person to view any picture at all. A computer can very easilly follow the simple vector of the human form, and can spot a foreign object much more efficiently than a human. They want this because they are pigs.
November 19, 2010 4:07 am at 4:07 am #711265HaLeiViParticipantWith Chanuka in mind, you are probably familiar with their law of having every Kalla being tried out first by an official. I’m sure they had some kind of logic then too. The realisation frightens and sickens me that you probably would have bought into that, too. Can’t you tell when something went too far?
I don’t know what makes you so happy about the fact that a man will grope your little boys. As long as it’s not your son’s Rebbi?
November 19, 2010 5:03 am at 5:03 am #711266charliehallParticipantI flew earlier today. No problems.
November 19, 2010 5:08 am at 5:08 am #711267ronrsrMemberhas anyone asked an LOR about this?
November 19, 2010 3:01 pm at 3:01 pm #711269squeakParticipantpopa- me too. 6 am. See you there?
November 19, 2010 3:17 pm at 3:17 pm #711270WolfishMusingsParticipantYou can always take the bus.
Not to Israel.

November 19, 2010 3:53 pm at 3:53 pm #711271popa_bar_abbaParticipantI am flying later in the morning. I hope you are through security by the time I get there.
November 19, 2010 4:08 pm at 4:08 pm #711272charlie brownMemberattention frum women (and their husbands and fathers),
the TSA in their wisdom seems to have decided that any female in a skirt is probably a terrorist and needs to go thru a pat down to make sure their skirt is not hiding any explosives.
I kid you not.

November 19, 2010 4:12 pm at 4:12 pm #711273popa_bar_abbaParticipantYeah. You might want to find out if you can get some heter to wear pants. I don’t know of one, but who knows.
November 19, 2010 4:16 pm at 4:16 pm #711275myfriendMemberThe crazy thing is even if you go through the scanner they can insist you go through the intrusive hand pat-down afterwards, if they think they noticed something in the scanner.
And you can’t refuse the pat-down apparently, even if you decide you will cancel your flight they will insist you go through it just to LEAVE the airport. (That’s what they advised the guy who took the recording a few days ago.)
November 19, 2010 4:19 pm at 4:19 pm #711276blinkyParticipantJust curious, i know someone with a catheter that is flying soon, and he wants to know if the security will give him problems, because its a lot of wires
November 19, 2010 4:45 pm at 4:45 pm #711277WolfishMusingsParticipantJust curious, i know someone with a catheter that is flying soon, and he wants to know if the security will give him problems, because its a lot of wires
I would be highly surprised if your friend is the first person the TSA has come across with a catheter.
Nonetheless, I would imaging it couldn’t hurt if he brought alone some documentation from his physician.
The Wolf
November 19, 2010 4:53 pm at 4:53 pm #711278blinkyParticipantWolf- most people who have catheters dont really fly…But ill check into getting documents- thanks
November 19, 2010 4:57 pm at 4:57 pm #711279YW Moderator-80Memberare you sure its a catheter
catheters dont have “a lot of wires”
November 19, 2010 4:57 pm at 4:57 pm #711280blinkyParticipantyes it is a catheter- and it has wires
November 19, 2010 5:17 pm at 5:17 pm #711281squeakParticipantpopa- you’re right. You wouldn’t want to be around when I go through security.
the TSA in their wisdom seems to have decided that any female in a skirt is probably a terrorist
So men in skirts are OK? I have Scottish friends who would like to know. They’re afraid TSA can’t tell a kilt from a skirt.
November 19, 2010 5:33 pm at 5:33 pm #711282myfriendMembersqueak:
Go through security in a kilt, refuse the scanner, and let us know the results.
November 19, 2010 5:37 pm at 5:37 pm #711283charlie brownMemberpopa- you’re right. You wouldn’t want to be around when I go through security.
-squeak
Why? Do you wear a skirt?
November 19, 2010 6:03 pm at 6:03 pm #711284squeakParticipantI guess the only way you will find out is to be at the airport at 6 am on Sunday, and wait for the ruckus.
November 19, 2010 6:03 pm at 6:03 pm #711285myfriendMemberI think the reason squeal hasn’t gotten back to us yet, is because security is still going through their very intrusive procedure, and squeak isn’t taking it to well.
No kilts next time. Too bad the girls don’t have that option.
November 19, 2010 6:18 pm at 6:18 pm #711286charlie brownMembersqueak,
post you video here so YWN can get a drudge link again on Sunday.
