Hi. Need to sell it ASAP. Don’t feel too bad – what I use weekly are old family candlesticks, instead.

I am not in the tri-state area.

What do you think – try to sell it in local frum community or take it to a pawn shop?

    Thanks

The Pawn shop will likely give you more money than the local Frum jews

There are people who buy old gold and silver. They probably pay by the weight, depending on the product. you could look into that and contact them to find out their policy. Don’t sell the first person you go to.

    Pawn shops pay very little.

Weigh it, and figure out base on the price of silver what you should get. The store/refiner will take off 25% or so (much more than gold). When you calculate, don’t forget that sterling silver (925) is only 92.5% silver.

Hi. Thank you for your posts. In case this can help anyone else:

I just came back from a reputable buyer. We confirmed it’s sterling all over, but they can’t weigh the silver due to the presence of a stainless steel weight in the base/stem which they can not remove unless they melt it.

The shop apparently specializes in jewellery, so it would not expect to sell the leichter. As it is so beautiful and in excellent condition, they offered to buy it to disply in their store. This was partially to help me out, as they’re non-frum Jews who sensed I’m legit.

If I have time, they recommended an auctioneering house.

May no one else have to pawn, but if you do, hatzlacha.

You would never ge back a lot for the melt-down silver, compared to the worth of the candlesticks. I hope your circumstances take an upward turn, so you don’t feel the need to pawn other items that you own. Hatzlacha rabba.
