I’m highly thinking of starting a website which would include teaching ideas used in my own classroom as well as from contributers. I would also like to create and upload my very own educational powerpoints based on various themes-secular and maybe also judaic. Finally, I might also create flannel board stories for the parsha and yomim tovim. My question to preschool teachers is how can I make this website profitable if many teachers only want access to free materials?
February 27, 2012 1:29 pm at 1:29 pm #857364ED IT ORParticipantI sincerely hope you are not a grammar teacher!
profitable? as in adverts or content?
February 27, 2012 1:51 pm at 1:51 pm #857365mommamia22ParticipantI’m not a teacher, but (on a side note) I can tell you that if a teacher made a website with educational advice, information about standards of education etc, I’d run to sign up (even for a fee). My friends and I often wonder about the different standards in various schools, and wonder/worry if our kids are learning the same material as kids in other schools. If teachers on a united website share their educational goals for the year, tips on parent reinforcement of these materials, advice on targeting various behaviors kids need to learn at this age (sharing, separation anxiety, etc) I would find that very helpful, as would many of my peers, and I think you might find great interest. Perhaps you’d consider adding this to your repertoire of information on your intended website??
February 27, 2012 2:15 pm at 2:15 pm #857366mra01385ParticipantNo I am not a grammer teacher. Well that’s my question, can I be profitable from selling my material or can I just make profits from advertisements? In other words, are teachers willing to pay a reasonabe fee to purchase my products?
February 27, 2012 2:43 pm at 2:43 pm #857367BTGuyParticipantHi crazybrit.
Seriously! Must one always find a fault with online chat communication. Most people don’t do a rewrite before posting here.
Incidentally, would you be able to recognize a grammar teacher? I noticed you didn’t use proper capitalization for the punctuation of two sentences starting with “Profitable” or the following sentence, either. So, was I accurate at determining you have poor skills, or did I just take a cheap shot? ; )
Hi mra.
I suggest, too, that you think about advertisements framing your site. Also, if your material would also be used by secular schools, through the school, the teachers may pay for the information. As a fellow teacher, though, I only use free materials from online and there are plenty of those sites to go around.
Another idea is to contact all the educational book publishers or even plan to publish your own book and feature it at next year’s Teacher Convention with a stand/display of your own.
February 27, 2012 3:15 pm at 3:15 pm #8573682qwertyParticipantAs long as you have traffic you can make money from it. Maybe get targeted ads from advertisers who want to target teachers.
February 27, 2012 4:55 pm at 4:55 pm #857369kollel_wifeParticipantI think a website like that has to start out free and then if it’s popular you can have advertising on it. You can maybe later on charge a fee.
February 27, 2012 7:18 pm at 7:18 pm #857370flyerParticipantI would first check out Torah Umesorah’s website – chinuch . org – they have every type of lesson etc. Most people go there.
If you want for the general public – try getting ads from places like Melissa and Doug, Lakeshore etc – other preschool geared companies and websites
February 27, 2012 9:50 pm at 9:50 pm #857371ED IT ORParticipantno I ain’t no gwammar teacher,
sorry if I came across as harsh,
anyways, if you charge than school teachers will all be happy to pay, as it will probably count as expenses!

February 28, 2012 5:23 pm at 5:23 pm #857373BTGuyParticipantHi crazybrit.
Sorry I came across harsh. I was just acting in defense of the teacher being questioned about their capabilities based on online postings.
Again, I apologize and will continue to read your posts with great interest.

February 28, 2012 11:11 pm at 11:11 pm #857374Boro Park GirlMemberAs a teacher I say NOOO!!! It will not be a profitable thing to do. There are many secular sites that sell tons of info and worksheets for all grade levels and most teachers I know in the frum world dont sign up and just use the stencils they offer for free or make their own. I feel bad being so blunt but I really dont think this would work.
February 29, 2012 4:26 am at 4:26 am #857375mra01385ParticipantTo boropark girl, I know there are many websites that offer free info and material for teachers. However, I want to offer specifically powerpoint presentations on various topics, such as counting, the 4seasons, yomim tovim etc. So would teachers be interested in using these powerpoints to enhance their lessons?
March 1, 2012 1:59 am at 1:59 am #857376PrincessEagleMembermra01385 – it’s a nice idea, i just wonder if it would work. I tend to agree with boroparkgirl, as well as kollelwife’s idea to start out for free. …What can you do that is better than all those free websites? Powerpoints is an idea, personally i wouldn’t buy it, either i’d find one for free or more likely make it myself, esp. as it’s for little children so shouldn’t be too difficult.
This is NOT meant to put you off!!! Your idea may have potential, so work on it!!! Perhaps try it offering these powerpoints etc for free and have adverts which will pay. This of course is only once you’ve built your name up, like someone mentioned previously.
I wouldn’t mind teaching ideas, if they were all free and of top standard! Perhaps, to bring more people to your website, you can create a message board where teachers can share there ideas etc.
good luck!!
March 1, 2012 3:57 pm at 3:57 pm #857377mra01385ParticipantTo princess eagle, there are many websites out there that offer free teaching ideas from other teachers. Also, chinuch.org has a communitty forum where teachers can discuss various educational topics such as classroom management, curriculum etc. Chinuch.org as well as other jewish (that were mentioned in the chinuch.org forum) already have judaica powerpoints and smartboard lessons.
I also like your idea about incorporating the teaching standards into the website, maybe corresponding them to the teaching ideas.
Another idea I had was to make a frum social network site for students and teachers to connect with fellow students and teachers. Students would connect to fellow students for homework help, or class projects and teachers would connect to fellow teachers for ideas and tips. Students and teachers would also be able to connect if they need homework help from a teacher.

March 2, 2012 2:17 am at 2:17 am #857380genuineMemberNothing beats chinuch.org!!
March 2, 2012 5:15 am at 5:15 am #857381mra01385ParticipantThank you everyone for all your helpful advice. I think I’ve decided to give up on creating a website for now, because there is so much out there already, I don’t think my website will make a much of a difference.
To genuine: yes chinuch.org has a lot to offer.
March 5, 2012 12:10 am at 12:10 am #857382PrincessEagleMembermra01385 (squeak +1 happy belated birthday to mra!) keep thinking though, and brainstorming! there is a lot already, but maybe you could do something completely different.. either way, it’s a shame to not make the most a talent, and good luck!!!!
