May 11, 2011 4:12 am at 4:12 am #916252ShmuLMemberWell how bad or severe is the acid reflux? I do have some good tips to offer. When do you find yourself experiencing the worst symptoms? ie. after eating? when going to sleep?
May 11, 2011 4:14 am at 4:14 am #916253Papa BearMemberyou could try reflexology and i know someone really good
May 11, 2011 4:29 am at 4:29 am #916254ilovetheholylandParticipantit is ouchy and i never really pay attention to “when” i get it…it crops up during the day………and what is reflexology?
May 11, 2011 4:35 am at 4:35 am #916255aries2756ParticipantNever go to bed right after eating.
Never eat a big heavy meal, eat more frequently if necessary but smaller portions that are easier to digest.
Stay away from caffeine including chocolate and soda.
Stay away from fried foods.
Stay away from spicy foods.
Stay away from gassy foods.
Never sleep or lie down flat. Use at least two pillows so you have a gravity situation where the acid is not as able of flowing upward.
See your doctor to discuss prescription meds if OTC medication does not work for you.
May 11, 2011 4:52 am at 4:52 am #916256Papa BearMemberReflexology is a natural healing that is done on the feet . The feet have reflexes that corresponds to the rest of the body. By doing Reflexology your helping your body systems work together to bring your body to homeostasis. Also its relaxes you. Acid reflux comes from stress and if your body can’t relax then one can get sick.
May 11, 2011 5:11 am at 5:11 am #916257gefenParticipantI take omeprazole – it’s like prevacid – but you need a prescription for it. I also finally realized that chocolate aggravates the condition for me.
It is a very uncomfortable condition!
Oh- one more thing – I find when i’m particularly uncomfortable, if I lay flat on my back on my bed or couch for anywhere between 15-30 minutes, I feel much better.
You just have to try different things and see what works for you.

May 11, 2011 6:42 am at 6:42 am #916259tzvideerMemberi think this is known more universally as heartburn.
i take medication for it, if left untreated it can cause real damadge to some internal organs, therefore if it is persistent and bad, you must see a Doctor,
a. to make sure all is OK
b. to treat it as neccassary

But it is true that one should see a doctor because it eventually can cause damage, chas v’shalom.
May 11, 2011 12:51 pm at 12:51 pm #916261Papa BearMemberYou could take tums
May 11, 2011 1:18 pm at 1:18 pm #916262mewhoParticipantgoogle acid reflux, you will get lots of suggestions of what to do and what not to do.
May 11, 2011 1:57 pm at 1:57 pm #916263gefenParticipantAnother bit of advice. Don’t wear anything too tight around the waste. It pushes the acid up.
May 11, 2011 4:54 pm at 4:54 pm #916265tobgMemberIf you do research about tums and other such meds if i remember correctly they cause more harm in the long run.
If you want to figure out which foods cause it you need to keep a good diary of everything you eat. Many people tried that but if you truly want to figure it out the root of the problem you need to analyze not only what you eat but what you ate before it.
For example: If you are hungry and you eat french fries it may cause a problem but try eating it when you are half way done with your burger and it might just be fine.
May 11, 2011 6:03 pm at 6:03 pm #916266HealthParticipantThere is a topic in the CR called “Heartburn”. There are many suggestions there. I posted there as well.
Check it out.
Heartburn is the symptom you get from “acid reflux”!
May 11, 2011 6:50 pm at 6:50 pm #916267aries2756ParticipantAnyone can get heartburn on occasion. Acid Reflux is a chronic disorder that needs medical intervention. It is also one step below what is known as GERD, which is a more severe form of the disease. The acid and bile that continually comes up can erode the lining of the esophagus, when you are sleeping it can even come up into your throat. It is very painful. If you understand the burning sensation in your chest you can imagine how much more that burn will feel in your throat. If you have ever eaten anything so spicy that you felt your mouth was on fire, that is what your throat feels like when acid comes up in your throat.
May 11, 2011 7:24 pm at 7:24 pm #916268ShrekParticipantNothing works better for me than Aciphex, but it’s only by prescription. Second best is Prevacid, which is over-the-counter.
December 31, 2012 3:57 am at 3:57 am #916269147Participantbut you need a prescription for it
A lot of these medicines can be procured on internet sites of people in places like Japan & Mexico without a prescription, and cheaper.
Never go to bed right after eating.
Fortunately, despite the late hour of eating on Seder nite, but Matzo & Moror & Radishes [Karpas} have no acid, so don’t irritate your stomach. Unlike grape juice, even wine does not irritate your stomach, as the alcohol kills the acid in grape juice which is nothing more than fruit juice.
