Is it true that R’Aharon ztz’l was very selective in admitting people to the BMG as far as their abilities and aptitude for learning went?

Yes, it’s true. Wikipedia says in R’ Schneur’s article “Whereas his father had actively restricted enrollment to a select group of students, his son Shneur opened the yeshiva doors to a broader range of students and post-graduate fellows. From a group of approximately 200 students, the yeshiva grew to almost a thousand students by 1981.”

I heard it from a relative of mine who is in BMG.

Also, Rav Aharon encouraged his talmidim to marry girls from poor families; an eitza that was reversed after his petira.

I can state flatly that Rav Aharon zt”l was not particularly selective regarding learning aptitude.

To Cherrybim: from what I heard, Rav Aharon also paid his kollel members. Not gloriously, but consistently and from the start.
