Oh, my.
I hadn’t even noticed – looks like my subtitle has been modified.
I don’t think I succeeded at making this round too challenging – the guessers here are sharper than I expected.
January 27, 2013 4:20 am at 4:20 am #937467ShowjoeMemberis it an airplane?
January 27, 2013 4:42 am at 4:42 am #937468I can only tryMember1) Does it have any mechanical/electronic components? Yes.
0) Is it used for recreational (vs. utilitarian) purposes? This question can’t really be answered. Either “Yes” or “No” would be misleading.
2) Is it bigger than a breadbox? Yes.
3) Do most people have it in their home? No.
4) Is it a building or some other object which people find themselves inside? (e.g. boat, plane, etc.) Yes.
5) can it hold 500+ people? Yes.
6) Is it designed to be mobile? Yes.
7) is it an airplane? No.
January 27, 2013 5:43 am at 5:43 am #937469frummy in the tummyParticipantQuestion 0 really comes into play here…can’t be just a cruise ship, because that would be recreational. Can’t be just a military ship/submarine, because that would be utilitarian.
Is it a ship?

Uh…so it’s a specific steamboat, I guess…is it known for its role in military combat?

Shall this round continue, or is requiring additional info a violation of “20 questions” protocol?
You decide.
I’ll abide.
January 28, 2013 5:33 pm at 5:33 pm #937480I can only tryMemberCorny Rhyme Alert
(spoiler, too)
Perhaps I should panic
Oh, what shall I do?
Veis mir, in Germanic
Did I play this game wrong,
Trigger tempers, volcanic
Drag it on for too long
My secret object, oceanic
Has my tone been too gruff?
Has this round been too manic?
Maybe my profession
Should be auto mechanic
And now, the confession
January 28, 2013 5:38 pm at 5:38 pm #937481frummy in the tummyParticipantIs it one of the following?
R.M.S. Titanic – White Star Line. This 1912 Luxury Ocean Liner is the runaway winner.
R.M.S. Carpathia – Cunard Line. Rescue ship of the Titanic has made collectibles for this steamship both rare and pricey.
R.M.S. Berengaria – Cunard Line
R.M.S. Leviathan – United States Lines
R.M.S. Queen Elizabeth – Cunard Line
R.M.S. Queen Mary – Cunard Line
S.S. Deutschland – Hamburg-American Line
S.S. Bremen – North German Lloyd
R.M.S. Aquitania – Cunard Line
We’ll see if we get it; otherwise we may decide it was too difficult in retrospect…
January 28, 2013 6:01 pm at 6:01 pm #937482I can only tryMemberfrummy in the tummy-
Congrats, you got it!
The Titanic it is (or was).
================================
Other object I was considering were “a spark plug” and “Mars” (the planet, not the candy ?).
Next turn, I may pick something easier, such as “the K shell of a hydrogen atom in Syrius’s core”. Or not.
January 28, 2013 6:15 pm at 6:15 pm #937483OneOfManyParticipantI dunno…the only ones I know of are from AP History circa the Civil War.
…unless it’s the Titanic, like fitt said (gosh, didn’t even think of that :S).

January 28, 2013 7:38 pm at 7:38 pm #937485ShowjoeMemberalright anyone want to start the next one (frummy if u want, u have first choice; after all u guessed the object)?
January 28, 2013 8:11 pm at 8:11 pm #937486SaysMeMemberhmm and to think i had the answer from way back when we knocked off plane… Maybe i should post my guesses from now on 🙂
January 29, 2013 2:42 am at 2:42 am #937487frummy in the tummyParticipantHaha, I didn’t think of Titanic either! I just googled “famous steamships” and pasted the first top 10 list that I found!
ICOT – You technically didn’t have to give us the answer at that point; I was just hoping for a ‘yes’ so we could guarantee getting the answer within 4 questions.
SaysMe – You’ve been silent for too long! Wanna take the next one?
January 29, 2013 5:14 am at 5:14 am #937488I can only tryMemberOneOfMany–
The only Civil War-era ships I can think of are the Merimac, Monitor, Cumberland and Sultana. I’m sure there are some other famous ones, but that’s it for me.
SaysMe–
To quote the lottery ad, “You gotta be in it to win it!”
Why don’t you take a turn and host the next one?
frummy in the tummy–
I pretty much gave it away in the post immediately before yours. (Your post followed mine immediately, so I realize you got the answer without my hint.) That, together with the fact that you had named it but just needed to eliminate the “extras”, was good enough to give you the win.
