Do we get guesses after the 20th question?
Is it round?
January 7, 2013 4:39 am at 4:39 am #937367frummy in the tummyParticipant1) Is it manmade? Yes
2) Does it use electricity? No
3) Is it metal? It contains metal.
4) Is it colorful (3 or more colors)? It can be (usually not really)
5) is it bigger then a computer screen/monitor? (Since that can vary, I’ll assume you meant an average size of about 20″) Yes
6) Is it a household object? I’m gonna go with Yes (It’s not a chair)
7) Does it have legs? No
8) Is it partially ceramic? No
9) is it movable? Yes
10) Does it hold other stuff in it? No
11) Does it have wheels? No
12) Is its primary use outdoors? No
13) Is it used for recreational purposes (as opposed to something used to accomplish something necessary/boring)? Yes!
14) Is it primarily used by children (under 10 years)? No
15) Is it a game? No
16) Does it have many (10 or more) pieces? No (It is one object)
Hint: Only some people have one, but it is almost universally appreciated
17) is it usually used in one specific room? No
Hint: It can’t always be used.
18) (Is it) a musical instrument of some type? Yes
18.5) Can it be used on Shabbos? No (Which instruments can be used on Shabbos?)
Hint: It’s not some abstract instrument like the Hocchiku (Japanese vertical bamboo flute), so basically, you still very much have a chance – just ask as good a 19th question as you can!
19) Is it a string instument? Yes
20) Is it round? As a whole entity, I would not describe it as being round..
Yeah, sure, let’s make this fun – every poster gets one guess. Go for it! I’ll post the answer Tuesday morning.
January 7, 2013 4:43 am at 4:43 am #937368frummy in the tummyParticipantSmile E. – I would still count battery powered instruments as using electricity. And remember, it’s bigger than a 20″ monitor (in total volume). Assume the monitor’s an inch or two thick; that would be another reason to knock out the flute.
January 7, 2013 5:30 am at 5:30 am #937369OneOfManyParticipantI want to clarify #16 – when you say it is one object, do you mean it is literally comprised of only one contiguous substance (like a one-piece wooden recorder), or do you just mean it has no loose pieces (i.e. not attached to the whole)?
January 7, 2013 1:27 pm at 1:27 pm #937370frummy in the tummyParticipantNo loose pieces, e.g. it wouldn’t be a whole drum set.
January 7, 2013 2:19 pm at 2:19 pm #937371TheGoqParticipantIs it a cello?
January 7, 2013 3:47 pm at 3:47 pm #937372frummy in the tummyParticipantRemember – the more guesses there are, the more likely it is that SOMEONE will get it right. So by guessing, you both give yourself a chance of getting it right as well as improving the overall chance of the CR as a whole getting the answer! I’ll post the answer around 11 AM tomorrow morning.
January 7, 2013 3:47 pm at 3:47 pm #937373frummy in the tummyParticipantAlso, feel free to repeat someone else’s guess!
January 7, 2013 6:38 pm at 6:38 pm #937374frummy in the tummyParticipantAnother idea (where are these coming from??) – whoever guesses right thinks of the next one!
January 7, 2013 7:37 pm at 7:37 pm #937375i love coffeParticipantIs it a harp?
January 7, 2013 8:07 pm at 8:07 pm #937376TheGoqParticipantIs that a no to the cello fitt?
January 7, 2013 9:26 pm at 9:26 pm #937377frummy in the tummyParticipantI was thinking I’d just say the answer tomorrow, instead of just individually answering each time someone guesses, so you or ilc may still be correct. Otherwise there would be an unfair disadvantage to you for guessing first (more options to guess from). Now other posters don’t necessarily know if you’re right or wrong and may still guess cello or harp if they think either of those is correct.
One guess per poster!
January 8, 2013 3:55 am at 3:55 am #937378ShowjoeMemberguitar?
January 8, 2013 1:53 pm at 1:53 pm #937379frummy in the tummyParticipantNo more guesses? Two hours left!
January 8, 2013 4:00 pm at 4:00 pm #937380frummy in the tummyParticipantAnd the answer is……..
an acoustic guitar!
Good job, Showjoe!
Okay, it’s your show, Joe! Want to start the next one?
January 8, 2013 4:21 pm at 4:21 pm #937381TheGoqParticipantVery good one fitt!!
January 8, 2013 6:06 pm at 6:06 pm #937382frummy in the tummyParticipantThanks, Goq! Great suggestion to have guesses after the 20th q!
January 8, 2013 6:36 pm at 6:36 pm #937383I can only tryMemberThe Q & A of “Is it round? As a whole entity, I would not describe it as being round.” made me think it was something almost round, i.e. a mandolin.
January 8, 2013 7:07 pm at 7:07 pm #937384frummy in the tummyParticipantICOT – Nice one! Similarly, I was wondering (when I wrote the answer) whether a banjo would have been a straight up ‘yes’.
January 9, 2013 2:25 am at 2:25 am #937385ShowjoeMemberthanks frummy in the tummy, ill start, but i can only check once every night, so i guess i’ll have to check every night.

January 9, 2013 3:37 pm at 3:37 pm #937389frummy in the tummyParticipanthumm….Is it larger (in total volume) than a fire hydrant? (What? That was the first thing that popped into my head! Okay?)

January 13, 2013 6:44 am at 6:44 am #937397frummy in the tummyParticipanthaha, yeah it did help a lot (thanks!)

January 17, 2013 8:03 pm at 8:03 pm #937404I can only tryMemberAnimal, vegetable or mineral?
(that’s how we always stared the questions when I was a kid)
January 17, 2013 8:16 pm at 8:16 pm #937405Derech HaMelechMemberThat’s also how the toy works. I bought it for my younger brother once and its uncanny how it almost always gets it right.
January 17, 2013 8:24 pm at 8:24 pm #937406I can only tryMemberDerech HaMelech-
We have it too, but I’ve never played it.
I know one of the questions it always asks is “Is it bigger than a breadbox?”, but I didn’t know that “Animal, vegetable or mineral” was also one.
Great SN, btw.
==========
Should I correct the type in my previous post?
Nah, let it stay there.
January 17, 2013 8:32 pm at 8:32 pm #937407Derech HaMelechMemberIs it bigger than a bread box I remember is also one of them, but the first question is if its animal, vegetable or mineral.
January 17, 2013 9:07 pm at 9:07 pm #937408frummy in the tummyParticipantI don’t understand – is that a yes or no question whether it is one of the three animal, vegetable, or mineral, or is it asking which one of them it is? Isn’t it just supposed to be yes or no questions?
January 17, 2013 10:59 pm at 10:59 pm #937409Derech HaMelechMemberNow that you mention it, I don’t remember. Maybe it goes through each one. but i’m 100% sure that is the opening question(s).
