When does the mitzva of drinking on purim start? Does it start from rosh chodesh? Or earlier?
February 3, 2013 9:51 pm at 9:51 pm #1219907From the night of Purim. (Some people cite shittos that it only starts by day, but those are minority shittos.)
February 3, 2013 9:53 pm at 9:53 pm #1219908JayMatt19ParticipantI believe that just like you don’t blow shofar the day before rosh hashana, and you don’t eat matza from the 1st of Nissan until pesach, one should already refrain from wine
February 3, 2013 10:07 pm at 10:07 pm #1219909popa_bar_abbaParticipantYes, but the only way we know that sippur yetzias mitzraim is from rosh chodesh is through a special passuk.
So that is the starting point.

February 21, 2013 4:31 pm at 4:31 pm #1219912popa_bar_abbaParticipant????? ???? ???? ????? ?????, ????? ????? ????.
Has anyone seen this idea before? That there is a mitzva to get drunk on the night after taanis esther even when it is not purim? If you had to break your fast today for some other reason, should you also get drunk? (Like for example if you are expecting.)
February 21, 2013 4:42 pm at 4:42 pm #1219913midwesternerParticipantI think JayMAtt has it right, Its just like Shofar. We should drink for a month before, to practice, kedei l’arvev hasatan, or whatever kavana you have. Then do not drink the day before Purim, when it’s Taanis Esther (in most years.) This way it will be chaviv again on Purim. (And the stomach will have a day to regroup too.)
February 21, 2013 4:47 pm at 4:47 pm #1219914popa_bar_abbaParticipantgood pshat. I’ll have to keep that in mind for next year.

January 30, 2014 1:05 am at 1:05 am #1219919ItcheSrulikMemberSheesh, don’t you people pay attention during megillah leining?
We have an open passuk:
???? ?? ??? ?????? ???? ??????? — ??? ??? ????
Translation:
To keep these days of Purim in their proper time — in the entire year
(obviously the second v’shana comes to include adar sheni)

March 1, 2017 10:11 pm at 10:11 pm #1219923yungermanSParticipantdrinking doesnt have a starting date.
you don’t need to drink alchohol (or drugs etc…) to be happy. just have bitachon & emunah in Hashem & in return Hashem gives you the priceless gift of Happiness cause you will see that nothing.noone in the world can touch or effect you without Hashems permission thus you will always be such a happy person 24/7
hodu L’hashem, how thankful i am to Hashem for everything Hashem gives & continues to give me. i am blessed to not need, liquor, smoking, drugs, music etc… to make me happy. I am bentched with the gift of happiness 24/7 because my entire trust is in Hashem & no one else or anything else.
