Six members of a family, grandparents, children and grandchildren were stabbed to death and their Rishon L’Tzion home set ablaze in an apparent move to destroy the evidence of the heinous shabbos homicide.

Firefighters were summoned to Nordau Street in Rishon on shabbos morning, to a residential blaze. After the flames were extinguished, EMS personnel were left with the task of pronouncing the victims dead, victims of homicide, not the fire, as police soon thereafter learned.

According to police, the family, which arrived in Eretz Yisrael from the FSU in the 1990s is not aligned with the underworld or any criminal past, a hard-working couple that operated a delicatessen near their home. The victims were identified as Eduard Ushrenko and his wife Ludmila (56), their son Dmitri (32), his wife Tatiana (28) and their two children, Revital (3) and Netanel (four months).

Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov admitted he is devastated after hearing of the homicide, explaining he knew the family well, friends of his, hard-working people. Police continue the investigation.
