An early morning blaze has left one person dead, and one police officer in the hospital, YWN has learned.
Lakewood FD arrived at the Capital Hotel located at 325 7th Street and Madison Avenue at approximately 3:15AM, and reported heavy fire showing out the windows of the top floor of the hotel. A few minutes later they reported that one person was unaccounted for.
Mutual Aid assistance was called in from neighboring towns to assist them in fighting the large fire, and Lakewood Hatzolah was called to stand-by at the scene.
The fire was brought under control at 4:45AM, and one person was confirmed DOA in the room where the fire reportedly started.
One Lakewood Police Officer was transported to Kimball Medical Center for smoke inhalation.
The Ocean County Prosecutor as well as Fire Marshals were requested to respond for an investigation.
