A hachnasas sefer torah will be held Sunday in the Ohel Yitzchak Shul in Jerusalem’s Old City the daily HaMevaser reports.
The shul is among the ‘important’ ones in the Old City, established some 150 years ago by the Shomrei HaChomos Kollel. It is also known as the Ungaren Shul because of its founders, HaGaonim Rabbi Nosson Goldberger and Rabbi Yitzchak Pereg, students of the Chatam Sofer. They also established the Ohr Meir Yeshiva in the building where torah was learned round-the-clock, in three shifts.
The building was abandoned after the riots of 1929, and then it fell under Jordanian occupation in 1949, with the building badly damaged during the occupation. After it was liberated in the June 1967 Six Day War, it was returned to Shomrei HaChomos. The shul was refurbished in 2008 due to the generosity of Dr. Irving and Cherna Moskowitz of Miami, USA.
The Fallick family of Miami and Panama has decided to donate a sefer torah in the merit of R’ Chaim and Nili Fallick.
The completing of the sefer torah will be done by the Seret-Vishnitz Rebbe Shlita, HaAdmor R’ David Abuchatzera Shlita, Kosel Rav Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz Shlita, along with other rabbanim and askanim.
A ceremony will take place at the Kosel and Chazzan Yitzchak Meir Helfgot will participate along with the Nadler brothers.
