Burglars during the predawn hours of Shabbos targeted the home of Uri Bar-Lev, Israel Police former southern district commander. Stolen were his handgun, laptop and vehicle. Police believe the thieves were not aware the home they were targeting was that of the former police official.

The gun was under the commander’s head as he slept with his wife, and the thieves also took her handbag, and their car keys, making off with the vehicle which also had his cellular telephone. Because Bar-Lev is moving to Washington, in the coming weeks, the new Israel Police attaché, the home did not have furniture. It appears they entered via a side door.

When police arrived on the scene, they found a large mound of rocks, which they theorize the thieves planned to use if detected.
